Supplementary Tesco Credit card - Bureaucracy, Read tape, discrimination & worst UK

I applied for supplementary card for my spouse on Tescoplatinum credit card. This was back in July, Bank wanted copies of passport, utility bills etc certified. They sent originals back and said will be intouch, then nothing heard until I called. Apparently they didn't like myspouse's name on the side of the bill and wanted 101 additional documents. Nothappy with council tax bill because it shows initials not the first name indetail. Unfortunately most of these computer systems only capable of limitedcharacters and they put initials. Now Tesco bank wants us to go get diverslicense certified and if no diving license no supplementary card. Which iscosting us time & money. When I asked the complaints team, what if myspouse do not have a driving license? Theresponse was, “in this case we will ask your spouse to change the name”!!! Unbelievable!Totally violation of human rights and which planet does is this bank operatefrom? AMEX and MBNA had no issuesproviding my spouse with a supplementary card even before we were married. Wehave a Barclays platinum joint account and all this evidence such as bankstatements etc none of this is good for Tesco Bank to issue a supplementarycard where I as the main cardholder totally responsible for all liabilities. Ispend over £50,000 with Tesco bank on my credit card. This is absolutely ridicules and totallyunacceptable. Who does Tesco's bank think they are? Bureaucracy, Read tape anddiscrimination & worst UK bank! I spend over £50,000 with Tesco bank on mycredit card annually. If this is what you get for loyalty, I will cancel myplatinum card and take my business elsewhere and will not have anything to dowith Tesco's!!!!

Finally the complaints Team has taken 4 months to look in tothis and extremely disanointed with the attitude and service. As a customer youwill never be humiliated and treated in this manner from AMEX or Barclays. Asking me to change my spouse’s name was absolutelyviolation of human rights and discrimination!

Don’t argue with idiots. They’ll drag you down to their level then beat you with experience.
You should have voted with your feet the first time they asked for certified documents. What's that special with their credit card?

Sounds to me like you've got the wrong end of the stick. What exactly did the say when they "asked your spouse to change their name" ? I suspect you're only giving us part of the story here ...

I'm wondering if English is not the OP's first language.

I'd be shocked if it is.

Though why they're putting over £50,000 of spend on a Tesco credit card while seemingly also having Amex and MBNA cards I have no idea.

You don't think they mean get his/her full name on the bill do you... I don't imagine they mean change it from William to John or Ahmed to Kevin...

Not sure how this is violating their human rights? LOL

Their card; their rules - the provision of a secondary card on any account is discretionary as their contract is to provide you with a card.

As regards your 'Human Rights' - I can't wait for the evil Tory party to rescind the Human Rights Act for England. All the dodgy people seem to go there and not want to leave even though they hate the place ;)

Make that, their card, their stupid rules. I'd kick 'em into touch immediately. In fact, I'd do so if they required that sort of (unnecessary) documentation when applying for a card as the primary card-holder.

I wouldn't be shocked if it were :spam: ?
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.

I've checked the list of human rights, and the OP is quite correct. Here you are -

    1. Freedom from torture
    2. Freedom from religious persecution
    3. Freedom to collect Tesco Clubcard points.

    So there you are...
