freecycle question

how long does it take between making a post for your offered or wanted item and it appearing on there?

    It depends on:

    a) Whether you're on moderation

    b) If you are on moderation, how busy the moderators of your group are

    c) What Yahoo feels like doing with your posts on that particular day.

Which group do you belong to?

merton and sutton. i got a note saying posts are to be seen by a mod before posting. im after some 'little people' animals for my daughter and thought id ask on freecycle but the post hasnt been put up yet on either board.

it was my first post on both of them too as well.

They might expect you to offer something before you post a want.

In some groups, all posts are moderated. On one of my groups, the Mods only seem to approve posts in batches, once or twice a day. I wouldn't take a silence as meaning anything in particular.

On the Farnborough/Aldershot group, you can't post a want until you have posted an offer. And all the posts are moderated, not just those from newbies. That's to help them make sure you don't post personal details and include all the relevant info in your post. But because there are only about 3 moderators for over 1,500 members, that means there are inevitable delays when there are no mods online, especially at weekends and in school holidays. Or when the mods have to spend the day clearing floods out of their houses. I'm sure a lot of groups work the same way.

So your post will probably come through with a lot of others, when a mod is on line.

Also a lot of groups only let you post wanted messages on certain days, most often Wednesdays.

Oh, and after all that, Yahoo groups and your own ISP may not get on too well together - if you log in to your Yahoo group home page you may find your post is already there hours before it lands in your inbox. It's not uncommon to get replies before you see your post appear, the people replying being ones with faster ISPs.
How sweet it is to do nothing..... and then rest afterwards.

I live in Chesterfield - Derbyshire and a member of this site. I find if I put an offer/wanted post on, it can usually take a few hours upto 2 days.
I think a lot of people have cottoned onto checking their emails, thats how I get responses before the post is literally on the board!

Once you're an established freecycler, it's on in minutes. Until then, it awaits scrutiny by the mods.

However, some people seem to get email notification much quicker than others, I don't know hwy hat should be.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.

I've just placed my first offered item on freecycle, had an email from somebody who would like the item. What happens then? Do I pass on my address etc?
