There's a thread here about getting 3 mags for £1
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=182314
I also only buy certain mags and my friend does the same and then we swap. Is this something you could do too?0 -
I'm teacher too, a secondary school maths teacher..........Hello fellow teachers, isn't this site great. I thought I was already pretty good with money..... but I've also saved a fortune from the advice on here.... gave up with the competitions as I didn't win anything and they were taking me ages and now my email is full of junk emails

It's amazing just how many teachers there are on here.
I'll know where to come when I need help with the TA NVQ I start next term :TIs it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches :think:Loves being a Wonderbra friend :kisses3:

Hi
With clearing out your books I have found amazon to be the most useful when I have sold off mine. Just don't put on heavy coffee table type books or you will be out of pocket on the postage.
Hardest part is not buying any others whilst you are on the site.

Sorry to hijack your thread but:
Chocaholic Wow!!!!
According to your signature, you have reduced your debt by 20k in one year.
Was that all you did? Anyways Well done!

Probably not all I did but I can't quite remember now. A lot of it is paying all spare money off debts before I can fritter it away. Sometimes it hurts but keeping the goal in mind helps. My diary is around somewhere on the boards that will give a fuller picture.
As to petite_anglaise and your love of September and shiny new stuff i think that is characteristic of a teacher. Myself and one of my colleagues are excatly the same!0 -

Hi everyone and welcome to my favourite day of the year - yep including Christmas Eve and my birthday - it is the first Sunday of the hols and we have another 5 to go!!!!!! You know there's got to be something wrong with a job that you are so overjoyed not to be doing!!!
Petite Anglaise big hug coming your way - well done for sorting it before it becomes a huge issue - you are the role model I could have done with a few years ago.:D
Re the holiday earning are there any summer schemes near you? Too late to sign up as staff, but you could be their version of supply.
Prison teaching is a great idea - have a friend who does it - wouldn't go back into school for all the proverbial in China.
Have you thought about creating a summer school for sweeties whose parents are worried sick by the end of year report? Private tutoring and summer schools are huge business where I live, and you could earn a fortune in a very short space of time. You would just need to hire a church or school hall - dead cheap, advertise in shops or leaftlets - the photocopiers in your school office will be available to print these, possibly free if you know the code of another department in your school.
Hope this helps and all the very best in your challenge.

:beer:Thanks to this fantastic site and it's amazing people, we have paid over £63, 000 off - just over half way!!!:T THANK YOU:T0 -
I find that Green Metropolis is ok only if you have room to keep the books and don't really mind if they don't sell straight away. I sell one on average, every 3 months!!Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!

Thanks so much for all the encouragement and great ideas everyone's had and hey to all my fellow teachers who seem to be much better organised at money making and saving during the holidays. Have to confess I usually just spend money, shop, sunbathe, read books and travel during the hols but not this time!
Okay, so today I have 1) Put books on Green Metropolis (and been
disappointed that apparently it won't do a lot)
2) Listed 14 things on Ebay
3) signed up to Lovefilm and several other cashback
offers on Quidco.
4) got a 3for 1 deal on Marie Claire magazine on
quidco which also gives cashback.
5) Gone through the hundreds of glossy mags under
my bed and pulled out all the samples which I
usually just leave - 14 sachets of shower gel and
11 of shower gel. Don't have to go to boots
tomorrow!
6) Pulled the free Origins voucher out of the Times,
to go get the free samples tomorrow and put them
on Ebay (although I very much want to keep them)
7) Had friends round for dinner - and instead of buying posh M&S food, I used up the contents of my fridge, roasted it all in olove oil and aded fresh herbs and parmesan. Called it Tuscan Bake and my friends all said 'ooh this is gorgeous' 'It's out of Jamie Oliver's book isn't it!' Ha ha. Didn't tell them it was moneysavingexpert inspired!!
Tomorrow - going to cancel the two creditcards I set up to get Quidco cashback, as have got the money and don't want to be tempted to use the cards!
Also visit to the library, ooh am I sad - Quite excited by this!

And yet another teacher here...well, primary HT actually....and yes this w/e is my favourite of the whole year too! Am determined to get myself organised over the next few weeks (including spending several days in school sorting out all the piles of paperwork hanging around - and getting ready for a probable visit from OF**** next term. Also intend to sort out a house full of clutter as well! I'll be watching this thread with interest - best of luck!Resolution:

Well Beemuzed if you are awaiting a visit from 'they who cannot be named', may I suggest you enjoy your holiday as much as possible so that at least when your entire life has to go on hold whilst 'they' invade your school, you'll be able to think back to a great summer!
Bonne chance!
