There will still be a 30 day notice period irrespective of the Line Rental pre-pay. A new advance rental period is hardly unusual and can be arranged in good time.

    Ok thanks for the reply.
Just one more point, if phoning up 10 days before the advanced line rental ends , would they cancel it at the point of phoning or let it run its course and the new account takes over the following day?

No need to tell BT you are moving the line to new provider, just tell the new one. They will do the neccessary
I did this last month to Plusnet.
This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !

I was thinking if gran decides to take over the account and stay with BT , would they let it run its full 12months.

Ok, if she just adds herself to the existing account it will kick start another 12 months, that is straight forward.

But the other option going to sky is a bit tricky, just dont know how to sort that one, how can she give permission when her names not on the BT account.

Funny thing is her name is on the sky TV and BB account. So if she asked sky to do the line switch, sky would inform BT that for example Joan xxxxx has put in request to transfer her line to sky.

BT would say for example its not joan`s account its fred`s account. Going round in circles here i think.

As Sky is in her name she can simply call sky and ask them to take over the line. They will get in contact with BT and transfer the line and number over in around 2 weeks, may be a little longer due to the time of year. That way all the services will be in her name under Sky.

Only reason this may create an issue is if BT services are within minimum term or a recontract. If on a rolling monthly contract and no money is owed, there would be no need to contact BT. Sky would take over the line and BT services would cancel automatically at that time.

If BT services are within minimum term or a recontract period I would advise calling BT first just to minimise any issues and upset further down the line. It wouldn't be good to have them sending debt letters after the fact.

BT 12 month advanced line rental up in around 2 weeks.
If she did contact sky how long is it before BT are informed (not the actual switch day ), because when BT are informed does that indicate notice? i believe you have to give 30 days notice even at the end of a contract, so a months payment is still needed after the advanced rental is up.

BT would be informed pretty much straight away and a cease would automatically be placed on the line, this would count as your notice. you only need to give 30 days if ceasing the line altogether rather than moving it to another provider and you can place your notice to coincide with the end of a contract. If moving to another provider then the take over period counts as the notice period. As BT line rental finishes in 2 weeks time, now would be the time to move

Gran got in touch to see what the options are after the line rental is up.
She can carry on after that date without a contract , just month to month , but if she wants to leave after that date 30 days is needed for notice , and £16.99 is already on the bill in the event she wants to leave, but would not need to be paid if paying for line rental in advance for 12 months again.
