In cases of bereavement BT will change the name on the account without starting a new 12 month contract.

If Your gran is moving to SKY then she just needs to place an order with SKY as it doesn't matter what name is on the BT account.

The number for BT bereavement team is 0114 202 1088

Several years ago, I took over the BT account, which was in my husband's name , with no problem. The number stayed the same, but the bills were sent to me.

Ok thats fair enough if no new 12 months contract starts.

And if she moved to sky, no need to tell BT the account holder has died?

And as spyhunter says it did not start another 12 months contract.

There is no need to tell BT the account holder has passed away if switching to SKY as switching will automatically close the account.

But remember that the final bill will be sent in the name of the person who has passed away and it won't be treated as a bereavement by BT if you don't let them know which may upset your gran.

Also if the switch to SKY does go ahead make sure there are no old rental phones on the bill as BT will continue to charge for these after the switch so you will need to cease them by calling BT.

    Thanks spyhunter.

Got to the bottom of this now, they paid advanced line rental 10 months ago, so 2 months left and they got rid of old rental phones 4 or 5 years ago.
So no payments for them on the bill.

The BT advanced line rental comes to the end on 15th/16th dec, when would be the best time to ask sky to take the line over. How does 1st dec sound or very late nov?

12 month line rental almost up now, will phone to see if they can offer something on new advanced rental, if not and i say she wants to switch to x company then, would they accept that, or say they will have to cancel the line altogether ?

    Any thoughts.
