Before getting in contact for my gran, has anyone took over the account after the death of the account holder.
Its just for the phone line rental, and did it kick start another 12 month contract.

Ok thanks.
Thought it may just carry on, they were out of contract
so could leave any time if wanted without a penalty.
Another thought also, if she swapped line rental to another provider ie sky, no need to inform BT ? so would BT need to know the account holder has died, or would she recive a letter from BT about the swap.
That thought has come about because they have sky TV and sky BB, so keep it all under one provider.:T0 -
Executer must inform BT that the account holder has died .
But you don't have to do it immediately .
If someone else is going to take over the account then its probably best just to inform BT account holder deceased and once the executer receives the notification from BT then swap .BT do have a department that deals with the death of an account holder .0 -

It would be gran taking over her husbands account, once she notifies BT they may want her to renew or the option to cancel there and then, if she says she wants to swap how would that work.
She will get in touch tomorrow but a bit of info beforehand could help.:T0 -
Best is to sort out who you may or may not move to first .
Then either phone BT and transfer name to grans name .
Or ask BT for a MAC code to transfer and start the transfer in grans name with the new company .0 -

She will go to sky, she only has bt line rental dont think a mac code applies to that, thought that was for BB.:T0 -
On the basis that you stay with BT
Be careful - you cannot take over the account - they will cancel the number and issue a new one - rendering any broadband obsolete.
It will then take a minimum of 2 weeks to get BB anywhere else - more like 3 weeks
If you want to keep the number let them know and they will initially add you to the bill - change the payment details and later on remove any other account holder
Its the most stupid system ever and the Indian call centres are not equipped to deal with these scenarios and will offer no advice
I found all of this out 3 months ago - it was the biggest farce ever and trying to untangle the mess took over a month
I opted to move to Sky - which is what I should have done in the first place when I took over the line from my father (who was moving abroad)0 -

I am a bit confused now.
Option 1 - Can she just inform BT the account holder has died and take over the account without any disruption? only has BT line rental , no BT BB or anything else with BT.
Option 2 - Line swap to sky, as they already have sky tv, sky BB.
But how can she do this without informing BT the account holder has died, which at that point they may say either renew BT line rental or cancel line, which will cause more problems.
I know i am repeating things a bit and now confusing myself.
Gran will have no chance understanding.:T0 -
If you ADD the new person to the existing account/bill you are entering into another 12 months - stipulate you want everything left the same
However in my experience the best thing to do is shift over completely to Sky - BT can make all manner of !!!! ups as I found to my extreme disadvantage0 -

Ok, if she just adds herself to the existing account it will kick start another 12 months, that is straight forward.
But the other option going to sky is a bit tricky, just dont know how to sort that one, how can she give permission when her names not on the BT account.
Funny thing is her name is on the sky TV and BB account. So if she asked sky to do the line switch, sky would inform BT that for example Joan xxxxx has put in request to transfer her line to sky.
BT would say for example its not joan`s account its fred`s account. Going round in circles here i think.:T0
