The wife says she will not let me put her name down unless we are 100% sure it was her.

So you have your answer now.

Op - worth pointing out it's actually a serious offence to pervert the course of justice by naming somebody else deliberately. A lot of high profile cases over last couple of years about similar offences.
Maybe ask for a photograph - if you still don't know maybe name the most likely culprit and write a small note on it. Something like 'we are not 100% sure which of the two of us was driving but most like __'. At least that way they'd struggle to do you for dishonesty.

Good advice, that's one way to get him to court.

Do NOT follow that advice. Failure to name the driver UNEQUIVOCALLY will almost certainly lead to a conviction: six points, a large fine and greatly increased insurance premiums.

Bit ott there but would certainly end up in a court appearance.
  • For the third time, when was the alleged offence?

If you can't remember just post your licence back to the dvla and that will be the end of it.

I'm assuming/hoping this is a 69 year old man genuinely looking for advice, not a boy racer looking for a get out.
Dave, you're going to have to put your name down for this one, and slap the mrs for not taking the points :)

If that was the case I doubt this thread would exist, as she would obviously not be an option - that would be really stupid!

Maybe Dave forgot about that. He can't remember when it's meant to have happened.
