Looking to upgrade phone from Huawei Ascend G300.
I've seen these two phones which I like and just wondered what reviews are of them and if there are any good deals to be got anywhere.

Looking for them to be on PAYG as I'm going to swap sim card over to new phone

Huawei Ascend Y300

or

Huawei Ascend Y530

(or is there anything cheap and cheerful for a better price?)

Ideal specs - 4 inch screen, 5mp camera, android 4 or above

Many thanks

I have a suggestion, Virgin ZTE Blade Q mini. 4" IPS corning glass screen, 5MP camera dual processor, Android 4.2. Really slim grippy case. Battery last really well with moderate use.

It runs smoothly and has virtually no Virgin customisation so is just Android with a few ZTE touches.

You can get an unlock code on Ebay very quickly for £2.75, this is the one I use, takes a moment then your free to use any sim forever.

    In stock at Tesco

£50 with free click/collect from Tesco (I don't think you need to buy any top up credit with it)

Android onboard works well, no need for flashing the ROM or messing around. The only tiny bug I found is if you set 'fast startup' on in the settings sometimes when starting up or shutting down the notification LED gets left stuck on. Leave the setting at (default) off and its all fine, it starts up pretty quick in normal mode anyway.

No doubt someone will tell you you need a Motorola and they are in a different league but for the money I think this is a bargain if you just want a well made smart phone that works well without spending more.

I'm looking to replace my old LG with a new handset, spending no more than £50, so this thread could be very helpful to me. I use my phone for texts, calls, and browsing on t'internet. Don't really use facebook or any other social networks on my phone, and I don't play games/stream stuff on it either.

I'd need to unlock the Virgin media handset from Tesco though, right? I want to use Giffgaff (which piggybacks on O2).

Yes. I got this phone for my son, unlocked it using the Ebay seller as linked above and its now running on Giffgaff with the £7.50 goodybags.

Have since got another one for a friend and unlocked it for them, they seem happy.

I was also interested in this for a youngster but might have missed the boat. Looks like Tesco have put it back up to £80 now. At that price I think the Moto E would be better value. Shame really.

Quite often this phone is sold by Argos Outlet on Ebay for £49.99, brand new with usual warranty but without top-up, but a delivery fee £3 or £4 I think.

I don't know if Tesco had any in-store?

I bought my daughter the Y300 and I wouldn't recommend it. Perhaps I was unlucky but its sluggish and just not a great user experience either.
  • Y330 Just bought one and it's great. Better than the Y300 and actually the cheapest in Carphone warehouse this week.
