Just posted it on another thread so just a copy here as relevant as well..

Do not look at the litter price per bag as such - work out how much you use and then you will know how much is the REAL cost.

The one I use seems expensive at £19.00 for 2 bags 14 litres each BUT it lasts my 4 cats whole month.

To make a calculation simple lets say 1 month is 4 weeks so...

£19.00 divided by 4 weeks is just under £5.00 per week and then divide that £5.00 per week by 4 cats and you see the REAL cost is £1.25 per cat per week.

Very cheap. And it is a very good quality litter.

I posted about it earlier on on this thread - from the Golden Grey range on Zooplus. Clumping great, no smell etc. Very fine granules.

People do the same with food - they judge by the price of the bag but this will not show you the true cost of feeding per week/month as each food has different feeding recommendations.

I used to use the Tesco value litter with my old cat, but it is very heavy and I can only get it delivered with my monthly online shop.

We got a new rescue cat just over three weeks ago and I picked up a bag of crystal litter from Sainsburys. It's lasted well, just over two weeks. I must admit I am quite impressed with it.

I do prefer the crystal litter but it doesn't seem to last long for me, how do you make yours last two weeks?
  • I used to use crystal but it got to the stage where it was only lasting for 5 or 6 days. I then moved to World's Best which is a vast improvement, but not working out much cheaper....then Amazon put the price up. I have now just received 2*14kg bags of Golden Grey so will give that a go
What goes around comes around.....I hope!
  • I use Oko Plus too, we had to change after the one we used was discontinued and all others we tried were met with disgust from one of our 2 cats (she took to dirty protesting). A big bag lasts us at least 5 months (2 cats and 2 trays) she does still pee on the floor now and again, usually if her routine is disturbed.
  • I use Oko Plus too, having tried loads in the past.

We have 4 cats, and 2 litter trays and find this lasts much longer than most without being smelly. We remov the clumps twice a day. I order a big bag from zooplus. Although it is expensive, it does last much longer.

I dunno, she doesn't seem to 'go' as often as my last cat, maybe one of each a day.

I don't really know what's normal as my last cat was on steroids so she used to go a lot, which is apparently a side effect, and my other cat goes outside.
