Best effective cat litter

I have two female indoor cats, I did have a hooded litter tray for them and have now changed to an open tray. I can't seem to find a suitable litter for them however. This is what I have tried so far:
Catsan non clumping - its good but then still needs a full change regularly and can be messy.
Catsan clumping - good at first, can remove clumps nice an easily but then the whole litter in the tray seems to set solid or form one huge clump, hence the tray needs changing far more than once a fortnight as stated on the pack.
Catsan smartpack - this is litter already placed in a liner, very convenient but there are only two packs and one doesn't even last a week so not very cost effective.
Asda cheap litter - this was awful, first wee of the day and the whole lot is saturated and needs changing straight away.
Crystals - so far the best of the lot but there isn't much in a bag so can work out expensive, but it doesn't smell, doesn't make a mess and you can shake the whole tray so the wee absorbs an the litter lasts longer but not as a long as two weeks as the pack suggests, hence still needs changing before the week is out.
All of the litters apart from the crystals tends to track all over and is dusty. I use tray liners as this makes cleaning the tray so much easier.
Am I aswell just using a cheap litter and changing the tray every day as the expensive stuff only seems to last a bit longer, apart from the Asda stuff which didn't even last a morning.

I only use wood pellet litter now and I can't believe how much easier it is than pretty much any other litter. I find although it's more expensive per litre than other types, I don't use as much so it's better value.I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

I use Wilkinsons clumping and my cat has 2 trays down. I take out the clumps and theres no problems. A £2.99 bag lasts 2-3 weeks.
I think you may need more than 1 tray, my vet said to me that each cat needs 2 trays. If you have 2 cats doing all wees and poos in one tray its bound to get soaked through.

I use the Tesco wood pellets. We've got two trays, she decided to use one for poos which I scoop out and completely change once a week. And the second one she uses for pees, but I only put in very little and change daily or every second day as I don't like her having to go back into used litter. Also it's not very dusty and tracks a lot less than others we tried. I also find they deal with smell rather well.DEBT 02/25: total £6100 Debt free date 12/250

Can always use wood fuel pellets or horse bedding pellets. They are often cheaper than cat litter pellets and no different! Just the packaging0

Golden grey - fantastic clumping litter with 'pebbles' that are easy to remove from the tray
If you keep it deep it's very economical - I hardly ever (and I really mean that) do a full tray changeGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Do nto have time to search but we had a massive debate on this a while ago (Rising? got the link? hahahah)
I believe Golden Grey won.... I currently use Golden White (variation of Golden Grey) and it costs me £20.00 per month for 4 cats that only ever pee/poor indoors (so masses of ermmm deposits) - that works out at £5 per week for 4 cats so about £1.25 per week per cat.
So you may think that ordering 2 bags of 14kg/litre each at just under £20.00 for the lot is expensive but when you see how long it lasts, how economical it is, no smell, brilliant clumping - you realize that buying cheap litter (cheap per bag but not cheap when you calculate properly) is not cheap at all.
This is the one I currently use - absolutely priceless quality:

Others from this range are excellent too - I changed to white just for the colour to be honest, used grey, used master, all excellent

Wood pellets here - went with that option as Bob had been using it at the animal shelter when we adopted him. we buy a massive bag (I think it's 30 litre) from BM/Home Bargains and it s £5.99. Lasts us about a month - and no odours0
