Accidents happen, and the restaurant have made steps to resolve your complaint, both in the free meal and in offering to clean or replace your clothing.

By all means vent, but be aware that the point of a forum is for discussion - and people won't always say what you want to hear.

The OP is getting a surprising large amount of grief for venting about the fact they had food thrown all over them!

I am unsure why people are taking the restaurants reply over the OP's post. I think it's more likely the restaurant were not as reasonable as it sounds in the managers post as if they were I doubt the OP would have been so annoyed!

@ojc77. Yes I have now seen the response that they have given on tripadvisor. If you notice, I posted this thread before they gave that response and they have a better attitude there than in person.

As for ''Do you really need to leave bad reviews in a variety of places'' I think if you were to look you would see my reviews on there are quite balanced. I write what my experience is. :)

@JReacher1. That is correct...there are a few problems with what they said e.g as for the 'free drink' they actually took our drinks away when they cleared the table so really it was only 1/4 of a free drink when I think about it. But I am not going to go into detail what is wrong with their reply. What happened, happened and it wasn't very nice to have hot curry dropped on my lap :(

I think I'd be miffed at having curry split onto me and my clothes but accidents do happen.

We've got differing opinions from you and the restaurant manager about how this incident was dealt with and no way of knowing which is accurate.

The manager said in his TA response that he offered to pay for your cleaning bill at the time of the incident.
You say you didn't know that when you first posted.
    Which version is true?

I think you were wrong not to admit in your first post that they didn't charge you for the meal (maybe that's why you're getting a bit of grief?).

Are you actually expecting the restaurant to do something more than clean your clothes, shoes and bag?
    i.e. monetary compensation?

Or are you just having a vent? (I agree that this is the right forum for that).

If you're not going to accept the offer to clean your stuff, what are you expecting the restaurant to do?

They have offered to pay for my cleaning as well, but I didn't realise that when I posted this thread. It is a 15-20minute drive to the restaurant and I don't really want to drive there, drop my washing off, and then have to go back etc..I don't fancy facing the manager again either. :(

I am pleased others have had a good experience there. But this was mine and I have posted my opinion in the correct section...if each vent gets shot down then what is really the point?

If they have offered to pay your cleaning, and you have a free meal, then I am not sure the vent is warranted.

My words there are so bad people on this forum!

So basically you are saying that if anything bad happens to you then as long as you get a free meal and any damage done is paid for, then you have no right to be annoyed?

Accidents of having food thrown on you in a restaurant shouldn't happen. if it does happen then I think venting about it is perfectly reasonable.

I can't believe that the poor OP is still getting grief from people here.

She had her evening and clothes ruined and thought the restaurant proprietor's response was lacking. So she posted a vent.

The most probable scenario is that, having seen the report on TA, said proprietor realised that his rather cavalier attitude wasn't going to do his business any good and belatedly adopted a rather more conciliatory approach.

The OP was not 'wrong' not to 'admit' anything about a free meal because she didn't go into detail about that side of things, here.

The free meal, in any case, would only really, partially, cover the ruined evening, not the damage to clothing and bag. It's unlikely that any of these items will be returned to their prior state after being doused in curry.

I bet the people who are queueing up to give the OP a hard time would be pretty upset if someone tipped curry in in their lap. rolleyes.gif

Well, have a little think about it - perhaps ask someone with a little bit of common sense - and come back and tell us when you are sure.

    Well, thank you captain obvious.

    What a mindlessly idiotic comment.

I have thought about, and in my first post i did say good on the OP for posting

It was an accident, if the owner has offered to pay for cleaning and even replace (according to tripadvisor,) what more do you want.

it doesnt warrant slating the restaurant in a review, fair enough venting frustration that it happened.

I didnt call anyone mindless and idiotic though, i will leave that to the likes of you

1- I don't expect them to do anything more.
2- Accidents do happen, doesn't make it right just because he didn't mean to do it. If he came up to me and did it on purpose that would be a whole different matter.
3-If there was a poster up saying 'free curry if you get it spilt in your lap' I wouldn't take up the offer.
4-It isn't just the money, it is the inconvenience and other stuff that I don't feel I have to justify. :)
5- The whole offer of them cleaning my clothes AND replacing them was after my rant here and review on TA.

Oh, and btw...if I was 'hiding' the fact I got a free meal, I wouldn't of mentioned it on TA either.
