Missing Cheque Not Cashed By Me

Ok, so I won money at Willhill casino, who wanted to pay me out by bank draft.
I never received the draft, but they say it has been cashed, so I got them to put a trace on it, and received a photocopy of it, with this stamp on the back;

Can someone tell me what number is the bank account number and sort code?
Also, how can I then find out who actually banked the cheque and where?

I don't think you can find out the fraudster's details yourself. It's time to involve the police. Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??

I think that the casino ought to instigate the whereabouts of the money that they sent to you. They may be in a position to retrieve it from wherever it has ended up. If not, they may be able to assist you in retrieving it.0

The sortcode is 950451, which is "Northern Bank Trading as Danske Bank" (I'm not certain but I think they operate primarily in Northern Ireland). Can't be sure which bit is the account number, but as the others have said there's really nothing more that you'll be able to do yourself to track down who owns the account.0

Isn't Danske Bank just the place the cheque goes to clear after going being paid into the depositors bank account?0

Good luck getting it sorted.0

Have you checked your credit file to see if you have any other current account with any other bank that you might not recognise. Other than that no bank would even touch the cheque unless it was going into an account with your name on it.
What if william hill cannot help, then you need to go to the police.0 -
Well, WH owe you money.
Apparently they have sent you a cheque that you have never received.
Unless they can prove that you cashed the cheque, they still owe you. It's their business, not yours, to trace and recover the money and, regardless, pay you what they owe.
It's their business, not yours, to get the Police involved if they need this.
If they refuse to pay, sue them via the Small Claims Court (online).0 -

The cheque would have been crossed and therefore couldn't have been legally deposited to anyone but the true recipient. It's primarily an argument between the casino and whoever has allowed the cheque to be deposited.0 -
As agrinall said the sort code is 950451.
The stamp implies that someone paid it in to a Danske Bank account, by sending the cheque in by post.
But the account number it was paid into would be a guess.
If you don't have a Danske Bsnk account yourself, it would seem unlikely that you'd post it into them to pay it in to an account.
I'd be telling William Hill they still owe me the money, and let them investigate the possible fraud.Early retired - 18th December 2014
If your dreams don't scare you, they're not big enough0 -
The Bank is Danske Bank - which is Northern Bank in Northern Ireland.
The stamp won't include the customer's details - any sort-code/account number is a central office for Northern. And Danske/Northern won't talk to you. You'll need WH to talk to their bank to talk to Danske/Northern. Make clear to WH that you have not received the funds and therefore they still owe you a debt. [But do bear in mind, it's unlikely to have been their or the bank's fault and potenitally impossible to detect if paid into an account with the same name as you]
[Hmmm, those Ombudsman implies Dankse/Northern has to talk to you and accept your complaint - you will want to be very clear mirroring some of the ombudsman language]
If they tell you that banker's drafts means they won't pay out, keeping arguing. A banker's draft may protect them against certain types of fraud e.g. counterfeit / their failure to pay, but it doesn't protect you/them against it being paid it by someone other than the intended recipient.
The front would be useful to see as well - feel free to PM.
- Is the draft 'crossed account payee only'; if so, it is illegal to pay it into any other account. Whether it is crossed or not is an important difference.
- Are there any other marks on the front of the cheque e.g. has any one initialled it to a different payee
- There is a business model - those cash/cheque converters shops - that will cash cheques/drafts and then deposit them into their own account. (So not strictly true, Steve, paragon etc, to say that no bank will touch. The banks of such converters would usually have an indemnity in place with the shop though.
http://www.chequeandcredit.co.uk/cheque_and_credit_clearing/the_law_relating_to_cheques/ has a reference to crossed cheques
And scroll around two thirds down this page: http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/publications/technical_notes/disputed-transactions.htm to a "cheque that was meant for the consumer, but was stolen by a third party ("cheque conversion")"
and http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/publications/ombudsman-news/26/cheque-lost-in-post-26.htm
If you are based in GB rather than NI, then that sends up another fraud flag - it being deposited across the border can slow things down meaning fraudster is more likely to get away with funds.0
