Neutral Feedback - as damaging as a negative.

  • Now I would have thought that 1 neg feedback would have brought my 100% score down to 99.9% or 99% but my score has now gone down to 98.9% so I feel that the neutral feedback must have been taken into account, which is not fair.

Nope, it's definitely the neg. It might have been 99% if you had 100 positives or more... but I'm guessing you have less?

And report that buyer for feedback extortion.

Like fay says only the neg affects your feedback, and since you have less than 100 feedback in total your feedback score looks about right. Once you get to 100 feedback you'll go up to 99%, and at 2000 feedback you'll get your 100% back again assuming you get no more negs.

I'm waiting for the email from ebay saying we are restricted as we have just hit the bottom 5%.
How did this happen? Well in the last 90 days we have had 2 neutrals, but we aren't selling as much as we were so the positives are not coming in to offset them.

One of the neutrals the guy left and told us about it afterwards. After emails going back and forth he then admitted - and left it in the follow up - that he'd been a bit hasty in leaving the neutral. The 90 days for this though ends next Tuesday!

The second one, there had been a problem but we sorted it out with a replacement and all along offered a refund which was refused. We since found out he'd refused the refund because he "couldn't be bothered" sending it back. Again he left the neutral without letting us know first. Some people you can't do right for wrong.

So over the last month we have been winding down ebay and only have 1 item on there at the moment. Not only will we be restricted we will also lose bronze power seller status. As we no longer rely on ebay for our income , to use a famous quote "I ain't bovvered" !!
Our fees were only a drop in the ocean of ebays profits but they are the one's to lose not us.

We are proud of our customer service - we have 99.6% positives (the negative was left by a non payer who responded to the NPB process) and our stars are all between 4.8 and 4.9 - and on the occasions that we have problems we sort them out with as quickly as possible.
Ebays new rules are making feedback extortion common and sellers are now having to break their back in order to protect themselves from muppets that have got them over a barrel and also make things alot more difficult for low volume sellers as we now are.

I feel though for all those that do rely on ebay for an income. It has become a dreadful place for all the honest sellers out there. Once again because of the minority, the majority suffer.

I try and be fair using ebay - stuff happens and most problems are easily resolved using communication.

I am concerned about the reaction to neutrals. Years ago I left a neutral - the 19th century book I bought wasn't by the author stated in the description but it was still a good bargain. I was happy to keep the book, thought I had a good deal, but it wasn't as described and I thought it worth while stating that there could be problems. It is only right to warn people that they should check their item.

Next time I will just go and stand in front of a flame thrower - much less painful and harrowing. Yet I would have been within my rights to file 'Not as Described dispute' and put vitriolic negative feedback. From now on - neg or nothing
    Always another chapter

Ebay seem to have forgotten who provides their income.

Is it just me, or is there far less listed on there now?
