Sorry, but another vote for "Out of luck".
You're well outside the period for an MOT appeal to VOSA - 3 months for corrosion, 28 days for anything else. SOGA reasonable expectations for a £600 car are minimal - you've had a year's use out of it.
Brake pipe and damper (replace as a pair!) are quick, cheap and easy fixes. The ARB - is it REALLY body rot on the fixing?
What else "normal wear and tear" has it failed on? Bearing in mind the MOT is an absolute minimum standard, then by your own admission, you've let it fall into a state of unacceptable disrepair - if not unroadworthiness - over the year, so complaining it was unroadworthy to start with seems a little rich...0 -
the replies that you are getting today are the same as you got yesterday
I dont know why but the the thread that you posted on yesterday was deleted for some reason, i posted on it twice and those posts have gone
Citizens advice will tell you to write to the selling dealer using their standard template which will take time and do you little good
the mot may have been carried out before the selling dealer took the car in, i would be surprised if they had anything to do with the MOT
the other thing that is unusual is if it was a dodgy mot then i would have thought it would have passed first time with no advisories, I cant see any garage failing a car with a long list of failure points and then pass it a couple of days later with no work having been carried out as it leaves a traceable paper trail, it would be better for them to pass it and get it out the door asap with no advisories
as i said yesterday I think you are setting yourself up for a long and fruitless fight but do keep us informed how you get on0 -

OP, how far away do you live from your workplace? Why can't you take a bus or a train.0

Because, if you don't live in London, that's often not an option unless you would like to take hours getting to work.
I live in a town. A small town, granted, but a town. I live six miles from a city. A small city, granted, but a city; with a cathedral and a castle and even a park and ride.
Can I get public transport to work which will get me into the office for 8am?
Yes. If I leave at 6.40. Or, I could own a car and leave at 7.45.
And that's to a CITY. From a TOWN. But sadly, since 'the North' doesn't seem to exist in the eyes of anyone from further south than Harlow, that's just the way things are.
Obviously, if the OP does live in London, then I, for once, echo your sentiments.0 -
What do you expect the dealer to offer on an old £600 car?
If you want shiny, new and warrantied, then it won't be £600..0 -

An MOT done whilst the car belonged to a dealer, is NOT worth the paper it's printed on.
They know you probably won't find the problems until 12 months down the line, at which point there will be no comeback on them.
Looks like the MOT was done six months before the dealer got hold of it.
Really don't know what the OP is expecting from a £600 BMW from a dealer.
Six months sounds about right, then scrap for a couple of hundred.0 -
After 6 months a £600 car is knackered?
Stop the World I want to get off!
I bought a £600 car, would have cost me a fortune if I wasn't handy with a spanner.0 -
Lets face facts, if the car was any good originally, the 'dealer' would've put 12 months MOT on it and got more for it.
It's probably come in on a part ex and they just wanted rid of it.0 -
OP you were on a budget, so why did you opt for an older BMW? Probably higher insurance, less mpg and not as reliable as Japanese cars.
You should have spent that £600 on an old small 1 litre car.0
