  • I was also talking about the air filter and pollen filter, should have mentioned, it takes a bit longer to change in the BMW.

Mainly yes, you need more oil and better grade fully synthectic oil. Also the cost of parts for simple things like air filter, oil filters are double the price compared to other 'lesser' car models.

What I'm trying to say that is that it isn't purely as simple as saying "customers are willing to pay more because its a BMW."

But that's not what you said. You said:

Ever seen a simple oil change on a e90/e92? Takes much longer than doing it on a Honda Civic

That has nothing to do with the cost of parts or grade of oil. You're just saying what you think justifies your point of view.

It really IS as simple as customers being willing to pay more because there's a BMW logo outside the workshop. You can try and convince yourself that's not true if you like, but you'd be wrong.

Wouldn't entirely agree on this. Ever seen a simple oil change on a e90/e92? Takes much longer than doing it on a Honda Civic.

The M cars takes even longer, hence why it costs more in labor.

Stop kidding yourself, BMW owners are paying for the flash showroom and fancy coffee.

It's the same with Audi, when my Dad takes his car in it's great, choice of hot drinks served by a beauty.

Compared to when I took my SIL's car into a Nissan dealer which was that cold they had a gas cylinder heater in the so called waiting room and 50p a coffee.

I used whatever came in the BMW-branded drum I bought it in. Was considerably more profligate with my cash in those days, but I remember it being an odd oil grade. Was it really 10w60?

Yeah I know, all my understanding of oil would have me using 5w40 in most things, but it was 10w60. Had to be this for the bearings.
Not the cheapest of oil! But when the engine is worth more than most cars....

Well there you go. I can't say I'd ever really worried about it, but now I know.

I thought it was just the Lexus that he had serviced there?
  • I had my M serviced once by Toyota Jemca dealer in Edgware Road, London. I specifically requested the master tech to work on my car and I recorded the mileage when I dropped it off. When I came to collect, it had done 7 extra miles. I queried this with the receptionist and the master tech and was told it needed testing and he had to drive few miles before it was properly warmed up. I was quite pi**ed off initially but the master tech seemed to know his stuff.

You must be furious at whoever is driving around in your Lexus now.

Yeah, those main dealer master techs really know their IT.
