thanks very much ajdj much appreciate the response I just hope he wouldn't break up with me over lack of savings....

If he knows how much you were paying your parents and still breaks up with you because you don't have as much in savings as him, you'll be well rid of him.

Yep he knows so he does told him months and months ago he knows full well, he works the family farm with no pay and has his own paper work business for farmers so he gets a lump sum once a year and deposits it

If you want to compare your financial position with that of your boyfriend, you need to look at pensions, too. At a wild guess, I would think you are probably light years ahead of him because you are enrolled (may be unknowingly) in a teacher's pension whilst the best he could have done for himself is a personal pension - which perhaps he has not.

But as somebody else mentioned before, if savings/investment money is a critical element in your relationship, perhaps the relationship isn't worth your while. You want a Mister Darcy ;)

£1100 a month on food and bills for one person seems like a lot. Is the £900 rent only (with bills on top)?

interesting thread, and you have had some great responses and support.

i read it as you have explained, that you expect to move into the farm house. i think it sounds like a great situation. if you are working, and will continue to work, while living on the farm, that can be a great life..with all sorts of advantages, including tax-related.

just keep working, saving what you can, including via your pension, as colsten mentions.

I'm confused, you buy the food and pay the bills for your parents or are you buying food and paying bills for other people?
