Yorkshire Bank Finally Goes Contactless

This is the new YB contactless debit mastercard. I believe YB is the last bank in the UK to go contactless.
Account holders with the blue maestro and the grey debit mastercard will get one of these when their current card expires.

Nationwide(ok a BS not a bank) still haven't gone contact less.
Get with the times! Plus the most annoyting thing is shop staff who don't realise that we use these cards!0 -

I don't like the idea of 'contactless' cards. I would prefer mine not to have the facility.
I was talking to the lady at Marks & Spencer banking about their current account. She told me that their debit card was 'contactless'. I said to her that I wasn't a fan of it and she told me that I could request to have a card that didn't include the 'contactless' facility. I asked her if this was the case for all banks, and she said that it was. She said that other banks didn't advertise the fact, but that you could request a non-contactless card.0 -

what I noticed us that it's a Mastercard debit card, rather than the Maestro card I have now. they tried to give me one of those a couple of years ago, when numerous online outlets didn't recognise it as a debit card and tried to charge me for using a credit card. Have those problems now been resolved?0

I think your a bit behind on technology, both my Nationwide FlexDirect And FlexPlus account have contactless cards on them. The only one that doesn't is my FlexAccount.
I would suggest checking out this link as it clearly shows the accounts mentioned have contactless cards.

I think they did have problems initially when it was introduced back in 2009/2010 as it was relatively new and the merchants had not updated their BIN databases which I believe has all been sorted now. I had no problems using the old grey debit mastercard online.0 -

That is the private banking card which only a small number of YB customers would qualify for as you need to have a considerable sum of money going into the account i.e £75,000 a year or more. Usually you find that the banks try out new technology first on the premium customers then it gets filtered down to the more ordinary accounts.0 -

It's certainly not the case for all banks - Lloyds for example won't allow you to request a non-contactless card.
I'd personally wager that within the next 5-10 years, trying to get a non-contactless card will be like trying to request a non chip and pin card now. If you're paranoid then of course it's fine to try and avoid them, but I don't think it's a paranoia that the banks will be indulging for much longer.0 -
Right I see what you mean.
I wouldn't say that I was paranoid about them, but given a preference I'd rather not have one.
The credit/debit cards that I use now all have this facility active on them and I've not met with any problem. But still I would prefer to have a card that didn't have it as standard and would definitely opt for one of those if I was given the option.0
