Right I see what you mean.

I wouldn't say that I was paranoid about them, but given a preference I'd rather not have one.

The credit/debit cards that I use now all have this facility active on them and I've not met with any problem. But still I would prefer to have a card that didn't have it as standard and would definitely opt for one of those if I was given the option.

Fair enough - I've seen a couple of people on here acting like there are people standing around every corner waiting to clone your contactless device!

Though it's certainly irritating if it happens, it's the banks money that is stolen - never your own. If contactless would result in significantly more fraud, there is no way banks would ever roll them out like they have.

Well yes, and it's a relatively new thing so I guess there'll be more problems with it as times goes by. I note that the maximum payment that you can make with them is £20. So then I'm wondering if the banks are actually a tad uneasy about them?

That is the private banking card which only a small number of YB customers would qualify for as you need to have a considerable sum of money going into the account i.e £75,000 a year or more. Usually you find that the banks try out new technology first on the premium customers then it gets filtered down to the more ordinary accounts.
I did say looks like this not exatly that card. Here is the one i have and i m not priavte banking customer.

Lloyds (and the rest of LBG) offer a non-contactless card on request.
Finding someone that knows how to order one is another story ;)

It's certainly not the case for all banks - Lloyds for example won't allow you to request a non-contactless card.

I think there's a slight difference between being "uneasy" about them and allowing unfettered access to their money! There is clearly a risk of fraud with them (principally someone merely taking/finding it and using it in a shop) which is why they have those precautions. You'll also occasionally be asked to enter your PIN.

Strange, their representative on here says that they do not offer that as an option.

    Hi callum9999,

Our customers who have been issued with a contactless debit card can opt out by ordering a non-contactless replacement (in branch or over the phone). An opt out from contactless to non-contactless isn't available with our credit cards.

    Hope this helps,
