Thank you for the reply redmike. I appreciate it. I'd find it a very boring community if everyone agreed with everyone else all the time, and I really do like hearing the other side of the arguement. But there are ways of disagreeing with people/ posters. Not everyone has the same life experiences, education or standards of english, and making allowances for that will make the whole forum work better and more useful to more people. I hope I'm not teaching you to suck eggs, but for instance, there's a world of difference between saying:-

"I think you're mistaken, in my opinion company A has always been great/ poor because of this personal evidence/example I have, etc......." And.

    "You're a twit/ (ruder name) to think differently, Company A rocks/ sucks"

Trolls (as defined by wike here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_%28Internet%29) only serve to stir up trouble and undermine what MSE is for.

When the OP posted the original thread she was new to the boards. Understandably she was upset and not sure which forum best suited her question, so she posted it on both. An understandable mistake for a newcomer.

The other thread revealed more information on the problem, and actually gave a fuller picture. Hence why I have implored posters to this thread to take a look at the other before making comment.

When the OP posted the original thread she was new to the boards.

If you actually look at the OP's information, this person has been a member since June 2005.
To me, this does not constitute 'new to the boards'.
Admittedly, the OP has not made many posts but this does not mean that he/she has not spent time reading through posts on the forums.

Please read the whole thread before posting,in future.
I did read the whole thread before posting.

I will reiterate my earlier points:
    1. I do think it unneccesary to post the same thread on more than one forum.
    2. I stated my opinion based on my experience of using Thomson's website.
Other people are entitled to their own opinions based on their own experiences.
Neiher I, nor any of my family and friends have any connection wih Thomson or any other Travel Agent/Tour Operator.

    Mpython,

Thanks for your considered response- I do take on board what you say and am very aware that MSE posters have differing individual skills and abilities I do not think there is a requirment or obligation to pander to the lowest common denominator.

The OP was complaining about the difficulty in using the Thompsons website and my original and subsequent response were that I found it pretty simple to use and I suggested that if they were unable to follow the on screen instructions then perhaps they should use a travel agent in order to be able to blame somebody other than themselves if things go wrong.

Thompsons must take tens if not hundreds of thousands of bookings via their website and no doubt the vast majority go well - pollycat was kind enough to contribute and agree that she had incurred no problems when making her booking via the site.

I admit to going off post with my reference to trite and petty complaints from idiots, but I do find that level of stupidity is amusing - perhaps I shouldn't , but I do.

I looked at the Wiki defintion of Troll, and I hope it doesn't apply to me - I have no intention of formenting dissent or winding people up.

I think the MSE website is brilliant and I regularly recommend it to my audiences, both as a general source of moneysaving ideas and as a good place to request and provide sensible advice.
  • Just got back from fabulous holiday in Calabria booked as per my earlier thread via the Thompsons website.

We got an absolute bargain from using their website and enjoyed excellent service, flights, transfers etc. all in all a super week.

    Thompsons website is excellent.

Posters are not obliged to read other threads on the same topic before they comment Hollydays - once again, you have cast yourself in a position of authority WHICH YOU DO NOT HAVE on these boards.
How dare you tell people to 'Please read the whole thread before posting,in future.', particularly when 'the whole thread' you are referring to is actually a completely different thread on another board?
I have no idea why you insist on trying to undermine the usefulness of these boards by throwing your weight around in such a petulant way. I only hope that people are not put off by your apparently limitless capacity for bossing people around, slagging people off and insisting on your own set of rules on a forum which is otherwise very well managed and a useful resource.

OP - apologies for rising to the bait on your thread. I hope that both these threads have provided some useful advice on how to proceed.
