Well maybe I am just awkward but if this happened to me and I still wanted the item I would just pay for them one by one after each is sent.

That's exactly what I did. I only approached the seller because I felt it was a reasonable question to raise. I was polite and reasonable in my dealings with him and continue to buy books from him to this day.

I would just ask for a discount on postage.

If they won't give it, then pay for each item individually, then reply saying "that's ok if you don't want to combine postage, i am happy for them all to be went separately."

If they send them as one, then you have feedback to leave...
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Sellers should really combine shipping, the funny thing is though, even if sellers offer free postage, some buyers will still want discounts.

I don't sell any more, but I got rid of a few (new) items last year.

Quite a lot sold for a bargain price, most had a delivery separate but some were free post.

Had to explain that free meant free and no postage to discount which did their head in, but if you want free, then you get free.

A few wanted combined, but I explained that they were all sent separately (as do a lot of the sellers I buy off) and no combined discount was mentioned in the auction and they hadn't messaged me.
  • I'd get them all sent to different addresses. Home, work, family members....

Just ask - they may not have realised.

I was parcelling up 28 parcels the other day and noticed the same buyer name. I just added them together then refunded one set of postage. I make it my policy not to make profit on postage even if Ebay do ! Lol

a few responses suggests asking the seller- but the OP states
I won all 4 and asked for a total invoice which they have sent but the postage is still £11.20 (2nd class royal mail

If the seller sends an invoice it shows them how many items are going to the same person and sends a combined invoice- which the seller can alter. If they sent the invoice they know about the multiple wins and the total postage.

Was it an invoice they had raised or an automatic one?
Not everyone's around when their auctions finish to sort out combined invoices.
If they've responded to say no, then pay for each one separately if you want to be awkward.
Do they mention combining on their listings/
  • I was just thinking how in commerce, one can foster relationships with suppliers, build relationships and work together in a supplier and customer relationship, ... and then there's eBay.

Suggestions to pay for one at a time just to punish the seller just makes me think how pathetic.

In all honesty, the seller possibly screwed up because they over estimated how much they would make on the clothes, (after all you can make loads of money on eBay right? ;) ) and the buyer saw a bargain and panicked to bid on everything without asking about the postage first. Six of one, half dozen of the other.

Usually in commerce suppliers would like to keep their customers happy, if this seller has sent an invoice without combining postage that doesn't really make for good supplier-customer relations.
A seller should always start their items at a price they're happy to sell for, taking into account all fees.

That's exactly my point, but what sellers should do and what they actually do are often completely at odds.

The original poster didn't say how much the items were or if she'd bagged a bargain.

My suspicion is that the goods went for less than they were worth so the seller feels justified in charging the full postage, which after-all is the terms of the sale without question.
