Hi
Me and my wife moved into our current property 14 months ago, at the time, the supplier was Eon, standard tariff. Anyway, we switch to M&S Fix and Save, the fix ended 30/9/2014.
In the 6 weeks leading up to the end of the fix date, we switched on the advice of the Cheap Energy Club, to the Eon Fixed 1yr v7, Cheap energy club claimed we'd save £50 a year, based on our exact usage rates for the full year, and paperless billing, dual fuel discounts, etc etc.
Anyway, Out of curiousity, I looked on Cheap Energy Club, and it states we can switch to Eon Fixed 1yr v10, and make a bigger saving. So, the first question is, do I pay the £10 exit fee if I switch from one eon product to another?
Secondly, I want to pay by fixed direct debit, as we can save £70 a year off the standing charges by doing so. However, the system is calculating that we will be using £64 a month, and wants to debit that. When in reality, based on the figures from the past 12 months, the figure is nearer £40. Can I stipulate the fixed direct debit amount? Or perhaps give them the exact figures for the past year from my old supplier, that backs up the fact that we use less than they claim. They seems to be basing this estimate on the previous time we were with them, which was only 2 months!
TBH, I am a bit annoyed really, and for the sake of £10, I may just switch back to M&S and take them up on their new fix!

Also, I got an email when I initiated the switch, will the unit rates include the discount for being a duel fuel customer and paperless billing, or are they to be deducted?
Otherwise, I think Cheap energy club made a miscalculation. It suggested we had a saving of £50 a year to be made, when I work it out to be nearer £25.Live for what tomorrow has to bring, not what yesterday has taken away0 -
The tariff's terms and conditions state, "You can arrange to switch to another of our tariffs or to another supplier at any time without giving notice. If you switch supplier before we send you your renewal notice we will charge you an Exit Fee, as shown in Your Tariff Details", which suggests you would not have to pay the exit fee if you are simply switching to another Eon tariff. I would still double check with them just to be sure.
They shouldn't be using estimates to set your direct debit, it should be based on your usage in the 12 months. Call them and provide them with the correct figures, they should then recalculate the direct debit accordingly.0 -

We moved house in March and signed up with Eon Fixed 1 yr V7. Since then we have switched twice (the second time just last week to version 9). We have not been charged an exit fee. They had wanted to drop our direct debit down from £90 to £20. I rang them and they have put it back up £90 - I got the impression that so long as you have sound reasoning then they are happy to set your own DD. (For us, as we didn't have any past history with Eon then because we were £30 in credit they just looked at our usage over the summer months and did not take into account the winter is coming up).Ditch 100 in January Challenge 100/100

Just to confirm what others have said, there's no exit fees for switching from one of our tariffs to another.
I suspect the Monthly Direct Debit being asked for is based partly on your current prices. These will change once you've switched tariff.
You're doing the right thing in talking to us. We can assess both the prices and usage to make sure the payments cover what you're using and don't lead to arrears.
If you've registered online, you can use the 'Direct Debit Manager' on our website. This gives you more control over the monthly payments and comes in handy should circumstances change.
Provided the account is billed up to the latest meter readings, you can change payments by up to 20 per cent up or down. By up to 5 per cent up or down without readings.
Before confirming, we'll let you know by how much we anticipate the account will be in credit/debit if the change is put through but usage doesn't alter accordingly.

I had to literally threaten to leave, quote my entire last 12 months usage (which eOn haven't received otherwise). They claimed to be basing an excessive £64 a month direct debit on the usage in this house BEFORE we even moved in!
Tbh, I am reconsidering whether I will stay with them, it's been a whole of 2 weeks, and already I am annoyed.
They eventually agreed to lower my direct debit to £47, but stated as the winter period is upon us, it's likely they may adjust it to a higher amount, with 10 days notice.

If you switch at this time of year it is entirely appropriate that your debit may be increased after the first quarter - you have no credit from this summer to pay winter heating bills.
The same possibility exists regardless of supplier. You can leave if you like.
If you don't like this pay the six to twenty percent premium to pay quarterly.
Your objection seems to be to measures introduced to address your own objection, ironically. You will never be satisfied.0 -

They are an energy provider, not an interest free finance provider!
All energy companies work their DD system so that your account holds some credit towards the hefty winter quarters. Doing it your way could potentially leave you with hundreds of pounds of debt come the Spring that you are not able to settle.
I'm not suggesting you couldn't settle the debt, but lots of people can't and the energy companies are wise not to take that risk.0
