hi all
we have 2 stray cats that I am NOT really feeding in my summer house.......one is almost identical to your pud ,dave ! the other is identical but short haired.. not friendly but slowly slowly...:D
well we had huge storm/wind/mini tornado type things here last night /this early morning..
lots of damage !
I heard it but slept , thought id have first "lay in" for a while only to be woken by an enormous ground shaking boom that sounded like a bomb. me and the 2 dogs shot up [8am] and realised that we had no power. I was worried the boom was my boiler house or close by ! it wasn't but the boom WAS heard 3 miles away by a friend. we finally got power back 6pm tonight . the boom apparently was thunder but whatever it was it was LOUD and ground shaking. trees are down everywhere but handy living here is that every other bod has access to a tractor and a chainsaw and all was dealt with pronto except for any that involved cables !
nightmare on holiday house front sort of ended when THEY left.. but letting agent turned up and stuck her oar in when friend and I had a 3hr window to turn it around before next guests...
picture this woman... quilt riding jacket, chord trews, hunter wellies [spotless ! ] and a po face....
after "catching her out" turns out SHE supplied the cleaner for them and asked said cleaner for a REPORT on "the state of things" !! apparently they only have very "prestigious clients" and it HAS to be up to HER standards...
friend and I were watching each others reactions to her shpeel :rotfl:
I invited her upstairs and as we approached she commented on an awful smell... I "commented " back..." yes, that's your prestigious clients leaving shi**y nappies in all the waste bins ....for days"... my friend left the room spluttering with laughter and SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED looked a tad red in the face ??
she then proceeded to tell us how to make a bed  saying it must be to 1st class hotel standard ...
I did bite my tongue folks...... for a likkle while anyway.
I pointed out the owner of the house owns 2 1st class hotels [London and here] and I will take his word over hers that he is more than happy with our work standards. I then told her to "go where the sun don't shine".... she did scuttle off then
:D
she wants the cleaning contract and the laundry contract for sure.... of course she would get a cut no doubt...
did I mention she said there was a CREASE in one of the cushions on the sofa ??
well you get my drift !!!
new people in house are brilliant, love it [incl no power all day today] war time spirit they lit the wood stove got a kettle on it, put pans of soup on and got stuck in [8 of them] also filled flasks of hot water for next door visitors . candles lit and all cosy :A
roll on 2018.. it can only get better than this year0 -
Just found out: the only recording I ever bought via Am-z-n was '100 Hits of Mario Lanza.' Good though he might have been in his day, it wasn't for me.
I'd forgotten. Guess who remembered!
In fairness, most of the digital albums I have were downloaded from an obscure university archive in the US, which was being used for illicit on-line storage purposes....until someone who mattered found out. Took them a couple of years though.
On foot patrol near dusk tonight, I noticed our sheep looking unusually alert. They were watching some other sheep in the next field, who seemed to be following something.
I crept closer and saw it was a fox, apparently untroubled by its entourage, including a fine Texel ram. The fox was slightly more troubled by a loud bark stage right, as the neighbouring farmer's German Shepherd dog came over the horizon. Fox disappeared at the exact spot where I know there's a hole in the stream bank....
....but I've been blaming badgers for that. I obviously don't know my fox from my badger poo!0 -
whenever I hear "fox" I think of my ALFIE , my fox I hand reared from 3 days old and had for 15 years... still miss my boy..0

Brief meeting with the London grandkids today, along with their parents. Nice to see them, even though short visit on their way to the train home.
Happy New Year dear Friends. Lotsa bangers going off here now. Earlier lots of big boom bangers. I don't get why everything has to be so incredibly noisy!
Tomorrow is a New Year, and I hope it will be a good one for us all.
Hugs from Liverpool. xxx0 -
Happy New Year from the Highlands.
Hope 2018 is truly wonderful & magical for us all.XXX0 -
Very quiet New Year here.
Bang on midnight there was a sudden burst of violent wind and torrential rain, which lasted a good ten minutes. Hope it wasn't an omen!
Then....calm....until our posh neighbours, 1/4 mile west, loosed-off an aerial bombardment that only lasted a minute or two.
Then....more silence.
Normally, we hear people celebrating in the town, but nothing this time.
We were at home all evening, rather than visiting the pub, as DW still isn't clear of the bug our kids brought here from foreign parts.
What's more, Lila has fallen ill too, so isn't eating. :(We've kept squirting water into her from time to time, but I'll be glad to have her at the vet first thing tomorrow, Think it might be a hair ball....:undecided
In other news, I bought a very soggy bag of seed sowing compost from the local garden centre. The owner looked at me pityingly and added, "I wouldn't put anything in just yet; err, let it warm up first."
"Oh, but I'm stratifying and I'm late, so cold, wet compost is just what I need." I replied.
The look on his face was priceless. Hadn't a clue! :rotfl::rotfl:0 -
Hope that the bug goes soon in your household Dave & Pushy cat get's better very soon too - Hair balls can be eased with some fish oil - a little cod liver oil - they will usually lick it out of the palm of your hand.
Missed a drama down the beach today but was told of a dog chasing a deer into the water but it was okay & it turned out it was one of puppy faces girly friends Bella who is quite a fiesty collie too. Glad it didn't get harmed just shocked. They had filmed it on their phone.
Seems that on XMas day a woman - who lives down the road thought a seal pup was looking a bit pale & got no help locally as they just told her to leave well alone if it wasn't injured so she got the RSPCA out from the BlackIsle - a considerable distance away - 70 + miles. They arrived just in time to witness it sliding into the water looking refreshed after it's snooze.
I get more gossip down the beach than anywhere else.0
