    hi all
well bit of an ongoing FOG here... clears during the day a bit then down it comes again !
got my xmas tree up ! which is little short of a miracle for me as im usually last minute with everything !
lights went up successfully around the house... could do with another set to go the hedge line the other side [bit of ocd coming out there !]
the temp is now 11/12 dg so weird as plants are thinking they have a reprieve..

I took on a cleaning job as an extra for xmas. only 2-3 hrs cleaning on a Friday... oh my word ! she is so bluudy ditzy ! I turned up last week, she didn't tell me the household had really bad colds... which I now have .. she informed me then of all the different people/agencies she'd had and complained about... I kept thinking £s :o I blitzed her kitchen and it shone [sorry self praise !] ... went into the lounge to hoover etc, popped back to kitchen and she and a friend were "doing coffee" and the kitchen looked like a bomb had hit it !! I carried on upstairs only to come down again to find her daughter had spilt and trampled a bag of cheesy puff things into the carpet...
at that point I thought "don't you dare ask me to hoover again "!!... I finished and left only to get home to a message saying I hadn't done the sinks/baths satisfactorally .... but would see me again [tomorrow]....SO I will turn up and tell her to find someone else !! why do people think that it is ok to do that ?? or is it me being silly !

Greenbea - what a lovely idea with the wildflower seeds - condolences for your Dad - I hope the funeral went well. I'm sure it did /will.

Alfie - cleaning jobs are like that sometimes. I jacked my last one in because of silmilar & now have none - I miss the money, not the actual job. I'd done it for about 15 years, but something just snapped!

Got some wood sawn today as it was dry & about 16 degrees. Three days ago it was so cold & everywhere was hairy frost & lethal underfoot - weird.
Yesterday was gales & the spindrifts were stunning.

Just treading water, not much happening other than the porch is coming along - roof sheeting ordered. It's keeping the weather off the front door already even though it's all open with no walls & no roof sheeting. The angles are all angular like the rest of the house so it looks good - to me, mind you I have to sleep with the architect.

    Stuffed with a cold.

Having a bad time over the conservatory now!Thread here if you really want to read it:

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5569186

I sort of expected this, as I've little faith in any window companies and this lot are no different from the others we've had.

Fortunately, the guys on-site are OK, but their boss is an idiot. Once I realised this during the design process, such as it was, I considered pulling-out, but the contract would still have committed us to several thousand £, although I doubted whether they'd really come after us.....Didn't want the risk, though.:o

It will be OK, but with the right people it could have been better than that. Sadly, the right people come at a price, and we can't pay it. :(

In other news, our builder has been lied-to in Oz, so he has pulled -out of the self-build deal he had going over there. I've left some jobs we still have for him till he cools off! People over there clearly didn't know he had relatives nearby to do some checking-up.

It also looks like Pete has been lied-to over something legal I've been helping him with. It might work out to his/my advantage, or it might just end as a load of hassle, but either way it's sad there are so many bloody chancers about.

Will come back when I feel less grumpy. Off to 'negotiate' with the stone co today. Will keep my temper as I have researched and they are the only firm for miles that can do what I now want. However it goes, they've lost the rest of our business, as we've re-designed the floor of the conservatory completely. :p:p:p

    Take care. :)

In a better mood already, although I don't know why, as I've just spent half this month's pension!

We had a meeting planned for this afternoon with the stone company's director, but with no sign of the conservatory guys, (wonder why!) we decided to visit a stone company a little off our normal radar to see what they might do.

    ....And we bought another hearth!:o

It'll be ready next week. If we get it in, the stove company is going to fit before Christmas. :D

Just before we left, the post arrived with a letter from the director of M C Slates / World of Stone in Bow, Mid Devon. In it, he insisted that matching two pieces of honed slate, even from the same piece, could not be guaranteed.

OK fair enough, but there was no offer like, "But we could have just one more try."

Instead, it was, "Therefore there is nothing we can do for you........We are sorry that it is not what you hoped to achieve."

He seemed to have forgotten we had a match, till one piece he supplied disintegrated.:mad:

I know a brick wall. :wall:With the long holiday on it's way we needed to get this resolved.

And because neither of us can stand looking at the mismatched hearth any more, it's going on the Bay. :p

OK one thing sorted. Just the conservatory now. I emailed the makers of the roof lights to see if they have recommended minimum installation angles....but they have't replied yet. :(

I'm intrigued to know how that box gutter is going to be re-welded in-situ. Why on earth didn't they use the hose and test it? I know whoever did it is to blame if the weld's no good, but will he be willing and able to sit on the roof and attempt to re-do it?

Small update. Sheep are back. :D These are cute little lanb sheep, and with any luck, not large enough to bark the apple trees.

HW can't come home. :( She may have had a small heart attack last week, so they're keeping her in a cardio ward for now. Anyway, we're so out in the sticks here that there's no company able to do the care package at present.

Where have all the old cottage hospitals gone?

Poor HW. There are no cottage hospitals about here either. It's all been centralised. Hope that something works out for her soon.

Raining now & much colder today. Had a bit of getting brambles out down the croft - constant battle. Just going over a cleared bit & getting the little uns out. If I can do a bit each week it helps.

If one does a wee bit here & there, it mounts up.

In between getting angry about building stuff, I've gone down to the woodland, trimmed the hedge and shaped some trees for max density next year. It's almost done and I've hardly noticed doing it. :)

Yesterday, after all the rain, I took a walk up by Mr Dog's place. The old 4" pipe that used to carry much of the stream water under the road was hardly trickling, so the new 12" under Dog's yard is now carrying the bulk of the water. It doesn't really matter, as it all ends up in the same place. Looks like there's been a good flow to clear the leaves.

The builder stuff is so annoying if they aren't doing their bit - I have found it so stressful most of the time - can't believe what goes on & what they charge for doing a mess.

    Grey here, but mild.
  • Hi all.

Not much happening here well on the house front. It's more or less at a standstill due to the lack of funds ..

Over the last month taken 2 sows ( one of the first batch we ever bought ) and 8 weaners to market. Prices wernt that good.

Still working in the meat packing factory via the agency. So next week is the busiest week of the year for them. And after that it goes very quiet. So don't know how much longer I will have work.

One of our cats had a kitten yesturday ( I was suprised she only had one) a nice ginger Tom ..So will prob keep him.

Our birds are being kept in due to advice of defra due to a potential bird flu threat. It's been so mild one of our geese have started laying!!!!! Lol..

Hello CTC - nice to hear from you. Something will come along work wise to fill the gap. I have nothing at the moment either apart from paper work for OH. Fingers crossed.
