Dave, I know it might look like I camp out in Lidl and Aldi, given the amount I recommend & buy from them, but just tread with care with that drill. Firstly, no hammer action, secondly, no listed torque rating on t'web, thirdly it's battery may be an unknown... there was a hammer drill a few weeks ago, for £50, and that might share it... You can get spares for €25 plus delivery for that one...
But, no hammer action, that's if you wanted that.
As to the amount I do... it's the amount I succeed at that's significantly smaller.
Scarily so at times ...
Anyway, another heating engineer should arrive any minute for Project Frostbite ... will this one be insane, have an odour problem, be able to do his sums or, shock-horror, will he be usable? We shall see - that's if he turns up!
I see he thunk big enough, Dave. Can you change your tag-line to something that doesn't make me retch? He's certainly made America grate for me, every time! Oh well, I can always build my own wall, and become a UK-survivalist nutjob....:D0 -
I wasn't worried by the lack of hammer action on the drill, Dafty, it's the battery capacity I'm most concerned about, so I was going to look at that before parting with my cash.;) DW has said I can have whatever I want in the drilling line, so I may take her up on that.:D
I have an SDS Hitachi for big drilling and a half-knackered Makita that hammers, sort-of, so I just need something to drive screws.... The last Parkside impressed me, especially when I dropped it 7' onto concrete without anything breaking.
But yeah, false economy, maybe,
And I am trying to economise, raise funds, or whatever, because there's a bit of fishing up for grabs which I'd like a half share in.....:j Too early to say anything about that, but it's always been my dream.....:shhh:
And those Eurofighters were back this morning, much to the cats' dismay.Maybe they will be all we have now, with NATO potentially in the bin.

It's good to see everyone is getting on and ready for autumn in various ways. I'm sorry your sheep have had to go Choille, I can imagine how much you'll miss them. Will you get more when the house is finished?
We are off work this week but work would have been less strenuous as we have decorated the kitchen following the roof leaks and replacement. It's quite a large room and we decided to replace spot light covers so cue bits of plaster falling down and filling, to fill various gaps that somehow the plasterer missed when the last person had it renovated (hardly surprising as she had the kitchen out in before the plastering was done...how do I know? The great big lumps of plaster on top of the cupboards!), sanding work tops and oiling then realising they weren't smooth enough so re sanding and re oiling, pwinting the ceiling that took a whole day due to the different areas, 3 sky lights and 17 soot lights to cut in, painting all walls and decided to go very deep grey/brown in two walls so extra cutting in, painting the woodwork and then trying to get everything back in order...all with no work tops to use lol. And I decided to paint the back lobby area too (fancy name for a small area that houses the washing machine, and the woodwork took 2 coats and could do with a third..Libby smokes in the doorstep so that doesn't help. Fair to say I'm shattered. Today is putting stuff back on the walls, buffing work tops and cleaning the house. If I get time I could do with getting in the garden and cutting dahlias back and cleaning the greenhouse, hateful job!0 -
DW has been up a ladder or down on her knees most of the week, sorting the coving, ceilings and skirtings in Bed 3 and the hallway. It is a nasty job, Fay, rubbing-down filler above your head, and it's just so tedious too.
Me, I just had my head up the chimney......:o
Looks like I might not be heading to town today, as the fireplace has turned into quite a big task if I'm to prepare it for fitting the main lintel tomorrow. At least the demolition bit was easy ()and the lintel I put in on Tuesday prevented a major collapse......So many random bricks up there, just bunged-in with no apparent way to defy gravity. I could build a barbecue! :rotfl:
I managed to pick up the drainage materials I need very cheaply yesterday. Sometimes the local place comes up[STRIKE] trumps[/STRIKE] with the goods cheaper than t'internet.Just missed this by an hour...

Very different from what happened in Croydon, fortunately. When one considers some of the ridiculous places this local bus goes, the insanity of using a double decker seems obvious, but this was on a stretch of A class road. You'll note how many were on it....:mad:0 -
Still waiting to have the new window fitted on Skye house. have arranged to get the chimney swept in December. Have also just had our first booking for next year, 2 weeks in August.
DD1 came back for an interview on a farm last week, sadly she didn't get it as they needed somebody with tractor experience. She did go and help a friend with their milking, so not an entirely wasted journey. I went with her on Sunday morning and thoroughly enjoyed myself feeding calves, young stock, milking and shovelling the brown stuff.
Going to York to do the Christmas markets, should be fun. Got some Christmas pressies today need to go and check my stash to see whose got what.
Taking the dog to an agility day on Saturday should prove interesting as she's not that obedient.

Well I class today as my last day off, I never count the weekends. We had considered going to a national trust propert but have decided we don't fancy the drive given we both go back to 2+ hour commutes next week. So instead I'm going to start the fruit soaking for my Christmas cake and maybe get into the garden and sort the dahlias. The greenhouse is also calling me to be cleaned, I'm trying to ignore it!0

hi all
well you all sound busy !
ive been working all week...plus a couple of airport runs..

Was that Friday? Where did this week go?
I see it's much the same for us all here: busy, busy.....and did I see a Christmas :santa2:in there too?
I think yesterday may have been 'Drive Yourself Bonkers Day.' Every time I tried to get going, someone arrived and distracted me from doing the brickwork I needed to finish.
At one point I was standing there in a long, bright red, overly-decorated dress, fighting with sadly familiar false boobies and thinking, "I'm sure my mortar's going off by now!" :undecided
I was dodging around the massive astronomical telescope that someone else left in the hall, just on the off-chance that I would know how to work it. (no!) With all the dust from the fireplace stuff, this just isn't a great place to park a 4' long, delicate scientific instrument! :rotfl:
Needless to say, I didn't finish and it was pitch dark by the time I washed the barrow out.
Today was loads better, Our builder arrived, sorted the missing brickwork, installed the fireplace lintel and frame and put ventilation into the redundant chimney. Meanwhile, I completed one of the two soak-aways....and we were all done before dark.0 -

Imagine how I feel as it was my last time off until the end of January now
Sounds like you had a really productive day though. We decided on an at home day to try and recover a bit. However, I hardly sat down all day. Cleaning, ironing, washing, food shopping, trying to put the spotlight covers back on and half the lights have fallen out if the ceiling. Hubby's going to try and get them back up but if not he's declared it will be new lights which may need the ceiling re plastering. After a whole week decorating this room I'm not impressed as you might imagine.
I didn't get into the garden and I won't today as its hammering down and I have the hairdressers too. Folks coming over later and I'm making cottage pie, I also want to make shortbread and it's Christmas cake day. A little late, oops.0 -
hi all
piddling down here too..
owner came to see jim jam [I got soaked ] he was very happy with his welfare so that's good..
went to see fish pond lady.. massive koi [about 1ft long and fat] lots of 6-8 inch koi and big/little goldfish ... so someone tell me WHY ive just got the job of emptying the pond, catching the fish and removing it all ??? ive now got to relocate A LOT OF FISH !! more than what I intended to but got em for a bargain price ! theres about 10 of the bigguns for £15 each [valued at £40+ each ] and a fiver each for smaller ones.. babies and Gfish free... I do this every time ! I have a week to plan it all.... and sell some fish ...
we certainly needed this rain, although makes it look miserable everywhere..
ive got Labrador for weekend and once hes finished "bouncing" he has settled down and all 4 dogs are asleep.
I lit my fire just now, cosy but now think its too hot in here !!
hope everyone is safe and well0
