Better_Days wrote: »Well Dave, having had to get planning permission for a conservatory at our previous property which no-one else could see, I sympathise with your feelings on this. Without PP there would be chaos and uncertainty for all..
I can only think the person concerned thinks there's no need for PP, but there is, never mind the fact that the Environment Agency has that field in Flood Zones 2 & 3.
I got PP for our tunnel, but from a different LA. At this time of year, people can briefly see it from the bus, and the top is just visible from a field gateway 300m or so away. Apart from that, it's only us and Horse Woman who see it. :A
From a brief glance, this one looks well constructed, so I'm intrigued, especially regarding who's put up all the money and what they plan to do next. There's no obvious commercial potential.
A lady had free range hens there two years ago, but the road at that point is so dodgy, not many would have stopped for eggs. She soon gave up.0 -
Lovely photo Better Days. I still have a lot of summer colour in my garden - fuschias, geraniums, dahlias. Then I have the cyclamen and winter pansies all looking perky at the moment!
Bought a lovely pot and a pack of specie narcissus yesterday (half price for both) Have planted up the bulbs and just before Christmas will plant with cyclamen or polyanthus - our Christmas present to our neighbours! It will beat the usual Wine and tin of shortbread we hand through - I hope!0 -
Watch your head if you are the top bunk Dave!0

My big hardy fuschia has definitely got second wind; during September the "drought" meant it stopped flowering and shed its leaves. Right now it is covered with blossom and fresh leaves. It was not affected by the slight frost earlier in the week.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

The garlic we planted is sprouting already. This cannot be good news.....will it die now over winter? What happens?0

It will likely be fine. We grow ours all through winter.....which reminds me, it still waiting to go in!
I'm not on the top bunk azza. My snoring often means I'm required to vacate the bedroom:o, there's a fire to be kept in and the cats frequently decide to ask out around 5am:(......and all that's without the inevitable 'old bloke' problem! :rotfl::o:whistle:0 -
The garlic will be fine lir; it needs a bit of frost to help it split. In 2010 it survived minus 19 here.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

Thanks both. I thought it would sprout in spring after the cold spell! I remember my parents failing with garlic for a few years before I was about 14 so I thought I might have inherited the doomed from the outset with garlic gene.0

'orrible weather here today, wet and windy. Not as cold as yesterday though. Chickens looking very bedraggled, they hate the rain and hunker down under the little shelter that Mr BD built for them.
Toilet in cloakroom started leaking again after plumber 'fixed' it.:mad: Luckily the leak isn't too bad, so we can wait until he returns on Monday.
Mr BD's head now too big for the Theatre Royal, they got a standing ovation last night for the third night of JC Superstar:D
phoebe1989seb when my searches were delayed I just rung up the LA and asked very nicely if they would expidite them, and the lady agreed with no fuss what soever to treat the search as urgent, and they were done quickly. Maybe worth a phone call if that is all that is holding things up.
:T Well done Mr BD :T
Thanks so much BDWe called our sols today and our searches are back.....however, our buyer emailed me to say theirs (which were apparently marked *urgent*
) won't be back now till 24th Nov
She's rather peed-off, to say the least, but I will suggest she tries this and see if that has the desired effect
x
Edited to add: lovely piccie of your courtyard.....very impressive display for the time of year......your gate looks a very similar colour to our external paintwork btw (F&B Green Smoke!)Mortgage-free for fourteen years!

I love fuschia's they are so 'exotic' looking, as if they should have hummingbirds flitting around.:D:D:D
This year I'm going to try and overwinter some fuschia's in the shed, apparently it can be done if you take the leaves off and don't let them totally dry out.It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.
