All my animals are working animals.
Kiwi is also a tolerably good poultry herding dog. Not as good as dogdog, and he cannot learn left or right, but he knows ' round the back' which is useful. And he'll sit /stay to close of a route so I can drive them some where if I'm the one 'round the back'.0 -
Apologies, no dead rat photo to contribute.
Although I did snatch a decomposing headless shrew from one of the chicken's beaks and was berated by outraged clucking.....
Thought you might like to see my courtyard area which due to the mild autumn still has begonia's, roses, geranium and fuchsia's flowering, plus winter pansies in the wall planters. The clematis was also flowering last week.
It has stopped raining for a while and I got out into the garden and planted up some primroses. It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

its all free flowing Alfie, its just there is 2 bends just passed the metal bridge, which acts as a buffer, slows the flow right down at those bends...which just so happens to be right at the bottom of mr pain's garden lolWork to live= not live to work0

Better days that looks lovely.
We have roses going. A second albertine flush even.
The marigolds and nasturtiums left to self seed for nest year have all germinated and are blooming away too.. I mean, nice to have a late flush but nowt they'll have time to set seed them selves.
The colours weren't as great as the seed packets suggest anyway..... ( why do they always fib?) . I did collect enough seed for next year so not too worried but might think of something more dashing in the future, though not much else is as low care and edible.0 -
Nice yard Better Days.:T Won't show you mine.
Normally I'm quite laissez faire like the majority of people around here as regards development, but this morning I spotted something that will probably make me perform my first act of nimbyism.
Down by the river, in the very picturesque valley below here, there was a field for sale a while back..... 1.35acres for £30k! Well, you can imagine what I thought about that, especially as the access is appalling and much of the land is steep.
Seems it sold though, because what's popped-up now, on the flat bit near the river, is a fair sized polytunnel. I was in the car, so I'm guessing a bit, but I'd say it's about 40' - 50' long and 16' or maybe more wide. Anyway, it's kinda hard to miss.
I've checked, and there's no planning for it, so I have no idea what's going on. Any planning apps for stables etc near there in the last 12 years have failed.
It's just field + polytunnel and no apparent route to the gate, which wouldn't be accessible anyway, even in a Defender, 9 months of the year.
So, I'll probably complain, though given that the land there is solid clay, (friend next door grows Christmas trees on it) and the river is quite likely to overflow there in the next month or two, I can't help feeling a bit sorry for whoever has spent serious money. Totally bonkers!0 -
Well Dave, having had to get planning permission for a conservatory at our previous property which no-one else could see, I sympathise with your feelings on this. Without PP there would be chaos and uncertainty for all.
Having said that a friend has been involved with local groups trying to get the council to comply with its legal obligations and it's own local plan with regard to a large development on the outskirts of Ipswich. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-suffolk-29894725 It has been rumbling on for years and years and what is frustrating is that the LA just make it up as they go along, don't post the info they should online and lie and mislead at public meetings. PP is all very well if there is a level playingfield, but sadly there isn't always. I feel sorry for the poor so and so's who will be affected by HS2 for the foreseeable future. It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.
