You take care Lucielle - sounds really full on. Fingers crossed for DD A level results - poor things all that waiting.
Re-listing stuff on the bay but wondering if that's wise with being away next week - it's been so slow that I am hoping that I can pick up some sales......Feeling cross-eyed.
Some of OH's clients arriving here at 10 am so been out in the house sweeping up taking a damp cloth over things in the kitchen so that they can have their meeting in there without getting white & powdery! Hope they don't need to use a loo - water still not on........note to self, fill cisterns with a bucket or two of water ........better than coming into the caravan......far better...............0 -
hi all...
I have at least 100 young pheasant turning up in my garden each day !! I put a row of corn down and they are ravenous ? im wondering if the keeper has just plonked them out [they haven't a clue what/where to do/go.. long gone the days when they are reared in situ.. these poor things have been mass bred obviously in a shed or something ...
gardener was telling me another keeper put 400 like this in a pen in his woods and aprox 200 got ate by mr fox.. talk about meals on wheels ? what did he expect ?? no electric fence....
I also have a cat turned up in the field adjoining me .. it is just sat/layed there.[was there this morning and still there this evening] I cant get too close, don't want to scare it off but iv a feeling its injured .. ive put some food out and gonna try and get its trust. very strange !
it has drizzled all day today, still warm, but we need it ..
right I gotta go collect a table and chairs I got on the bay for mum..0 -
We find even wild pheasants are drawn to where we feed chooks. Even now we have hardly a chicken to speak to and in the back garden we are getting them in the back garden round the chicken house, so reared ones congregating in numbers is not bizarre. In fact, I've seen it before.
An old vet, anti rearing birds for shoots, used to feed them in her home, which was a pain, because she worked from a porta cabin in her front garden, and trying to get to her in an emergency in August was a nightmare, feeling that one was more in a row boat in a sea of birds, than a car on a country road.
( they all new well enough to head there.....)
There is a very good funny short read btw about a man who gets turned into a pheasant. I cannot remember the title or author but if I do I'll share it here. I think you'd laugh a lot Alfie.
Grass is just growing as we watch at the moment. The rain on Monday morning was epically beautiful. We lay in bed with the windows upstairs open listening to it pelt down and watching goosebumps rise on our skin.
Made me feel for the Scottish contingent who have had little else though.
And after the baking weekend, this morning, for the first time as I popped out to open doors etc, I had faint dragon's breath in front of my face. I was not cold paddling through the garden and farmyard in a nightie, but obviously I was significantly warmer than the air around me. I wondered if the sheets would feel cool when I slipped back into bed with a cup of coffee, but they felt warm still, thanks in no small part to a greyhound and two Siamese having no interest in letting geese out this morning.
I'll have to cut grass again tomorrow I think. After this weekend we are having a couple of social weekends, people coming to stay. So, I am about to start a big of a big clean and tidy up..

Alfie - the pheasant breeding goes on here on the shooting estates - they are pretty thick - don't seem to like flying - who can blame them as that's when they get shot!
They will eat new shoots if you grow veg - can be a real problem in a garden.
Cat sounds ill - hope it's okay. Not poisoned? I'm sure you'll check it.
The day has vanished with people sucking the very breath out of my soul. Exhausting, but achieved hardly owt. Feel like I have lead boots on. Some days are like that....too many.0 -
if I was blonde I could claim a "blonde moment".... but im not so I cant...

Just touching base....
We are going to visit Rosemoor this morning and leaving one of the plumbers in charge. Not sure if this is a good thing, as the one fitting the heating really isn't the brightest button in the box.....
He doesn't seem to have much concept of what's his decision and what's ours, so I'm being asked to specify things a heating engineer should know, while he's putting things where we should be choosing the exact location. Overall, I'm not impressed, but it's pointless ranting... I'll just keep repeating "They're cheap! They're cheap!"
Kitchen co are resisting all attempts to give a breakdown of the cost of everything. eg. units, worktops, flooring, appliances....nothing more specific. They have our money, or most of it, but giving this info is not part of the deal, apparently.
They are not cheap.
Yesterday, the accounts dept sent us their standard agreement with a 'covering letter' of a post-it note saying "Please sign here....." DW stopped me, but I wanted to sign the post-it note and return it in the s.a.e. :rotfl:
Instead, I settled for being intransigent and did nothing.
Hope DD's results are OK lucielle..... and that it stops raining up there in Scotland.
It will rain here soon.0 -
Alfie - you probably have too much on. Hope it works out fine - which I'm sure it will.
Have you seen the cat?
Dave - that was one thing that stuck in my craw was the way kitchen sellers would'nt be drawn on price. It took me ages to prise out a price for just a work top - which was dear enough in my book. They want to send round a designer.........all that nonsense that goes with it. I just walked out on a few places.
I do like Howden's stuff, but they have two prices, or possibly three - you can get an awful big discount even by going to another branch - weird I know. Sign up as a trade if you can.....
I am pleased with my bits bobs of a kitchen - groovy, bling marble topped gloss black island unit. Hand painted Shaker style fitted units down one wall - cheap, but brand new off Gumtree - I painted it. thick concrete look worktop down one wall. Beautiful white ceramic sinks Oak Arts Craft mirror back side board. Oak Victorian wind out table - loads & loads of dust things to still finish before I can finish the wall paint. No doors, no skirtings, no water .....no FREAKING WATER...............ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh0
