Phoebe - have you tried copying the 'direct link' on photobucket - I copy that then click on the picture icon when posting and paste into the little box. Bit of a faff but it seems to work.

    Sun's shining :j:j:j:j

Thanks BD :D Will give it a try later.....back out to the planting now.......I have a border of box balls to get in ;) Enjoy the sunshine x

Are you one of the lucky people who cannot smell them?

I absolutely adore the way they look, I would love nothing more than some box topiary, but ......I just cannot bear the smell. :o Tescos keep stocking them and I cannot buy food in there when they do, its like shopping in a litter tray, with the smell cooped up inside

Phew, just in from a marathon weeding/digging sesh....time for a glass of wine (it's a non-fasting day today :D;)) and so far I haven't got round to planting a single thing yet as the bed was more overgrown than I'd thought :(

No, unfortunately I'm not one of the lucky ones, LIR.....in fact I seem to have inherited from my dad what he always called *the family nose* and can pick up nasty whiffs that go undetected by DH :o

However, these - all sixteen of them - are bordering the architectural bed that abuts the lower lawned area where (due to its somewhat sloping nature) we are unlikely to sit/spend much time.....other than more weeding of course! In that bed we have already planted a much larger box ball and conical shaped box too - half price at one of our local nurseries :D Sadly these all have *the smell*!

Fortunately DH's favourite garden plant is lavender, so we have an over-abundance of this to compensate!

Funnily enough, years ago - about ten iirc as it was when we were in Southsea - we bought a pair of spiral box trees to flank the front door and these appeared to be odourless......perhaps they were not English box, as I think I read that it's these that have the *cat wee* issue? We still have one of them now - the other succumbed to a Wiltshire Winter - and it remains odour-free :p

    hi all.....:hello:

well nice man has approved repairs to car so hopefully in next week.

ive been trying to help my friend in Portsmouth find another house/flat to rent [she has till September to move but has 25 years of stuff to move !]
she has no internet so im phoning her with info. she has bad arthritis and has had to give up work [she is 60] so she gets housing benefit... nobody will let a property to her because of this. one asked for 6 months rent up front twice a year !! there are no council properties and no housing association houses/flats available... council admitted they were largely for younger people ?? so where does my friend live ????
she cant afford the higher rents of the over 60s accommodation [650] and they wont take HB !
so this lady whos worked all her life and payed her bills and owed nothing could be homeless ! makes me so

How awful Alfie for your friend to face such a difficult situation. It is so thoughtful of you to help.

Phoebe I have also been out weeding today although, my hours of weeding have made little impact :(

LIR I am similar to yourself with an incredibly acute sense of smell and as pretty as box looks the smell is less than favourable.

Things here continue to be tough.

DW is doing the longest ever trip back from Brum.

Got to Taunton quickly enough, but put petrol in instead of diesel!

Well, that's what I pay the rescue service for....err... that, and locking the keys to the van inside it! :o

    One all! :D:p

If she does become homeless, the council will have to house her, but I have a feeling a certain friend might be trying to ensure this won't happen.;)

Even if it's something temporary for now, she should get onto the housing association lists. Takes a while, but they offer more security than private landlords. Might need to move inland too for flexibility, though P'mouth is hardly the English Riviera!

its actually cheaper where she has lived... Southsea. than inland. the housing is so dense its like a rabbit warren. my nephew used to own a sea front hotel/wine bar there and he was constantly asked to house "homeless" and the council offered full £'s which defeats the object really... why the council sold off/never built new I don't know ....well I do but that's another monologue !;)

friend is in a catch 22 situation and council have said they don't even have emergency housing. unfortunately that area has been taken over by "rooms to rent" at max profit rather than let the house itself it seems.
there is a high drug rate in that region and roads/houses that go with that stigma.. she doesn't want to be in those areas which is fair enough..
we are not beaten yet !!
