All seems normal again in my shopping haunts....well, if you don't count being showered with cider, despite there being no discernable party. Supermarket guy dropped a bottle and fought gamely to suppress the plume of drink, but quite a bit still came my way. I thought his antics attempting to gain control as he wrestled it to the floor were priceless. I just giggled..His comment, "Oh, thank God you can see the funny side. When I saw you were an older person, I thought you might get really angry!"Hmmmmm...5

Did you get angry at the 'older person' comment? Or was he young enough to be forgiven as anyone over 30 would be seen as old?6
-
I'm not naturally an angry person and I couldn't possibly be angry with anyone drenched in cider! I think he was probably around 30 and, to be fair, my hair's greyish now. He's probably one of those unfortunates who simply verbalise whatever they're thinking and then wonder why they're always passed-over for promotion.Horrid, windy afternoon, but nowhere near as bad as Ted's area will have tomorrow. They're hogging all the rain up there too! We're only getting dribs and drabs of wet stuff. Keeping plants growing in pots is a nightmare, but whatever we put out, sells.5

Windy here too - and about 3 drops of rain, so waterbutts are still empty.
I was due a delivery of compost and topsoil today. Compost was delivered fine, but the topsoil delivery failed - the driver couldn't get the pallet onto the drive let alone onto the verge. I've no idea why - there are pallets with bricks and stone sitting by the edge of the drive, so it's clearly possible. He started digging up the drive, so of course that made it softer and worse. I now need to a. contact the supplier for a refund and b. source about 700 litres of topsoil from somewhere... my brother has a small amount that he can bring over in a trailer, but with only 250 litres of compost (plus as much water parsnip as I can drag out of the stream!) I'm going to struggle to fill a 7ft x 3ft x 18" raised bed... not that it's been built yet...
I'd prefer bagged topsoil to a builders' bag. I know it uses more plastic, and is more expensive, but TBH it's a lot easier for me to handle on my own. However, it seems almost impossible to get hold of at the moment for delivery - maybe I'll have to actually visit garden centres and buy a few bags at a time to bring home in the car. Water butts are almost impossible to find as well.6 -
Supplies and deliveries are all over the place . Contrast the 25kg of slow release fertiliser I bought on Wednesday evening, which arrived on Friday morning, with the special pens we use, which took 11 days first class!I noticed the fertiliser stocks were running low on the sites I use, so I jumped-in. We're selling so much at present my supply wouldn't have lasted far into June.Rain is tantalisingly close at present, but it won't help river levels, which are in the orange zone....5

Yesterday was really gale force winds and torrential rain. Poor sheep on the hill - they probably wonder what happened. Blown a hooley all night and still raining. For a front garden, which I still haven't finished digging over, I now have a pond. Supposed to calm down a bit today. The trees were fairly lashing about. Hope the birds in their nests are fine.
Mind you we get our new arrival of the feline kind on Thursday. I'll have to keep him in for a bit before letting him take a few tentative steps outside. I'm quite excited - looking forward to it as the house has been so quiet without any animals in it ...apart from OH ;-)

I've just come in out of the heat for a while. This weather makes a lot of work for us, keeping plants happy. Then, in the evening we're watering and doing jobs it was too hot for in daytime. Last night, we finished at silly o'clock pm, ate and collapsed! Can't keep up with demand for plants.....
In other news, MiL was diagnosed with Covid aftermath at the hospital on Sunday, but doesn't agree, so has gone for a 2nd opinion today! Will let you know the outcome....
Meanwhile, our niece, who's a nurse, saw DD2's NHS support installation on the roundabout, took a photo and emailed it to everyone. She doesn't know it's her cousin's work. They only live 5 minutes apart!Removal vans turned up here today and everyone I was peeking to see who was leaving. It turned out to be the couple who've been for sale next to Horse Woman's misbehaved dogs for around 2 years. I'm so pleased for them, as I never thought they'd sell.Surprise, surprise, I understand the incoming folk have dogs too.....Not too long till you get your new woolly monster, Ted!
