Hi Patman
May I join this challenge please? I'm always caught short and havent budgeted for an emergency before. There are some major household repairs that need doing and if i can reach this challenge i may be able to cover at least one!0 -
Can I join too Patman.
I have been on the forum for years and have just finished a DMP with some other debts to pay off but one thing I never managed to do was get an emergency fund together. I was going to aim for £500 before coming across this thread, but £1000 sounds much better.
I have signed up to the Save the change function on my bank account and plan to add to it monthly. One of my biggest worries recently has not having money for emergencies and its about time I got it sorted.

Many congratulations on finishing your DMP, parsniphead.
It must be a brilliant feeling of relief:T.
I've a few years to go with mine yet but I can see the debt total going down and all being well can count off the months to the end.
Welcome to the Emergency Fund Challenge and Good Luck :beer:0 -

Thank you carbootcrazy.
I do still owe a small fortune to family/DH but its good to have the DMP gone. It was a long journey but was worth it.
I'm sure yours will be gone before you know it. Well one for getting the emergency fund sorted while on DMP. I wish I had been so sensible.1 debt v's 100 days chapter 34: T3sco bank CC £250/£525.24 47.59%

Thanks for your kind words, parsniphead:T
I'm ashamed to say that being the ostrich I am (well, was now) I never thought of such things as Emergency Funds when there were credit cards to be used:o. Now I haven't any credit whatsoever on the DMP and having had a couple of major urgent scares having to find money that I didn't have:eek: I know the only way to survive the DMP years with my sanity intact is with an Emergency Fund to fall back on. I'm so grateful to patman for starting this challenge as I've already had to dip into my fund for car repairs. It's been really hard to save anything on the DMP but I've done a couple of casual jobs, sold stuff and had an electric company refund all of which have gone straight into the EF. Otherwise it's nigh impossible to save as I'm committed to paying off my debts quicker than is really comfortable but the alternative doesn't bear thinking about.
A big welcome to all new challengers. Well done to everyone who has saved anything lately. It's so motivating being a part of this challenge. Thanks, everyone:A0 -
Thanks for the number patman.
