Can anyone recommend a really good baby monitor

Hi all,
Money isn't a factor on this (I know not very MSE of me) as it is going to be a gift from a relative and I have just been told get what is the right one for you.
I have already had a monitor with my first born, but that broke, so looking for the latest recommendations on good monitors.
I am looking for one that is easy to use with a portable parent unit and a couple of channels available, (WITHOUT the annoying alarms that buzz when the room is too hot, or baby doesn't move, I can't stand these!)
Anyone got a good one they can recommend?
Thanks

we love the bt digital one, but it does flash when the room is warmer than 23 degrees:

Ooh, I had my eye on that one. But hubby is adamant he wants the movement sensor one 'because you'd never forgive yourself' he says.
Hmmm, I forsee arguments over that one...:wall:0 -

A word of warning, this has had my friend turned into a frenzy. The problem with the movement sensor is that if baby rolls of the pad, which often happens the alarm rings disturbing baby and giving mum/dad a dreadful shock. The amount of times my friend has shot out of bed, to find little one has rolled!
She has binned it and got a second hand standard monitor when she had her second baby. She has never slept better!0 -

If it is something he really wants, let him pay for it with his own money? This one looks interesting - I did consider it myself, and as it's attached to the nappy, there's less chance of no signal. The idea is that if the baby doesn't breathe then the monitor vibrates (like a mobile phone) in order to wake the baby a little and hopefully breathe.

We have the Tomy walkabout one, priced @ £65 I think? I have been delighted with it.It also shows temp of baby's room, without any alarms going off/lights flashing when temp changes..
I will try and find the link when I have more time:D
But hope this helps for now...

Good luck in your search. It's great in here!0 -
I have the Txylix one from Lloyds Pharmacy. It plugs into the mains electric and seems to work well. Baby's not due for another 4 weeks but me and DH had to check it worked!! Obviously we looked like over-grown children playing with walkie talkies!! Its on offer for £9.99 I think and should have been about £35:heart2: Charlie born Aug 2007 :heart2: Reece born May 2009

I use the BT one previously mentioned and you can change the settings to flash at a higher temperature if your nursery regularly is warmer -like mine 26 degrees! It has a function on it to remotely start the lullabys and I use this when my LO is crying - just turn on Golden Slumbers and you can hear her calming down straight away0

We have the Philips Family monitor, it has one baby unit, one main parent unit and one smaller rechargable parent unit that you can take off the base and carry about with you.
We have had no problems with it and its really handy knowing you dont have to keep unplugging the monitor to move it about with you. We had the baby one in DS's room, main parent unit in lounge and then portable one in bedroom with us.Bringing up 2 handsome boys and 1 gorgeous girl the MSE way!Joseph born 19th December 2001Matthew born 8th August 2007Tara born 23rd January 20110 -
We have the BT one and its fab. very sensitive, crackle free reception and an excellent range.
Movement senors will just make you jittery and anxious.
Oh just make sure you turn the sound off when you go upstairs and start talking about your relatives. They can hear everything (as we found out!).0 -
I do like the range of the bt one - I've been known to hang out washing in the garden with the parent unit in the peg bag - hearing a baby crying from it must have confused the neighbours...lol.
As it is digital there is no interference - it's like using a normal digital phone. I don't really use the talk back facility on mine for DS, but I can see it would be helpful when he's older - I can tell him to go back to bed without leaving the sofa...;)The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0
