    Yes

It plays back programme material from iPlayer, Chrome Browser, Netflix and YouTube. That's pretty much it.

    Google it for more.

Quite a few android apps will play to it, as well as desktop chrome. I use localcast with local media or *ahem, other streamed media.

    Works a treat.

It is good for what it is but requires a smartphone or tablet to initiate the transfer to TV .
There is plenty of reviews on the web and a fair few informative posts on MSE .

Depending on what you intend to use it for you could also consider a NOWTV box, which offers a similar range of viewing features plus the option to buy access to Sky functions on a regular or one-off basis - I got one so that I could watch the Ryder cup, £9.99 for the box, £10.99 for 1 week Sky Sports.
  • It's pretty good, we use it for getting BBC iplayer and netflix onto the TVs in the house. At work, I use it for presenting from my PC onto a projector (and most importantly, you can jump from presenter to presenter without needing wires)

My son also likes to mirror his tablet onto the TV

It'd be nice if more services ran on it, but we certainly get use of it more than our Apple TV, which cost a lot more.

I bought one of these when Tesco were selling them for £18 or so. I used it a couple of times and then stopped. It is rather limited in its use.

We found that it lagged terribly when using it to watch Netflix. Thankfully we can now use the xbox360 without needing a subscription, which makes the Chromecast rather redundant.

I mainly use it for BT Sports (works great), Iplayer (works great) and streaming films from my PC via Plex media server (works great).
