We've had little black ants in the house for a couple of weeks and then this weekend they found the kitchen and we've had a steady stream of them in and out since then. Does anyone know of any good ways to get rid of them (preferably non-toxic as we have a toddler)?
I've tried putting little trays of vinegar (white malt) near where they are coming in to deter them after someone recommended it but it had no effect, in fact as I was cooking dinner one was walking round and round the tray I'd put on the worktop as if it was actually attracted to it.
There is no obvious source or nest that they are coming from as they are just coming up from under the patio so it would be difficult to target the nest.

They really uggghhh. I found that they come thru the smallest of holes even cracks in window frames and thru the outside arial hole drilled thru the wall. U have to really go thru and block all unnecssary holes. I know it's unsightly but a good ant powder put down in and around the affected areas does the trick for me; I'm not sure abt being toddler-friendly but check the packet - gd luck!

We buy some little circular plastic containers, with tabs that you break off to give the ants access to the poison. The containers come in packs of 2 from Wilkinsons. I would imagine that they would be OK with toddlers, although I've not looked closely enough to judge exactly how close to the tab hole the poison is. I would imagine a small toddler's finger *may* get inside if they were determined.

They do work, though, and last for up to 3 months which should see you through summer.
