London's public transport - commuting to/from work on the tube

Another day started with a fiasco on the Central Line and again I wonder how much worse can this possibly get.

Last week someone under a train at KX from what I remember and paralysed Northern Line.

Last Saturday someone tried to jump (believe was stopped) and paralysed Central Line.

Today I got to work for 10:30 instead of 09:00 as "broken down train" (one set of announcements), "fault with tracks" (another announcement) on Central Line.

I pay around £180.00 per month just to get to/from work 5 days per week (over 3 hours per day as just over 1.5 hour each day provided there are no delays), conditions are diabolical, timimg/reliability diabolical, comfort in any shape or form non existent.

Just a vent really as what really can be done?

It is not just the jumpers.

It is terrible, insane overcrowding on trains in rush hour, trains breaking down, running late, etc etc

A train didn't break down, the track broke and ripped the pick-ups from the bottom of the train, which then ripped up the rest of the track.

!!!!!! happens, none of it is done deliberately to hack passengers off, although listening to some of them they really believe London Underground have a personal vendetta against them.

There's a reason why a large proportion of people who work in London are young, people grow tired of running in the rate race on a daily basis and look for jobs nearer home.

Unfortunately the unions have wrung out every last penny the government is willing to throw at London Underground with over-inflated wages, work times and holidays, this is the result, no money left for the basic infrastructure of the tube.

While they "evacuated" Leytonstone today the message was "due to a broken down train"

By the time I got to Stratford the message was "faulty track".

I do not feel LU has a personal vendetta against me but I would like to get to/from work on time and in relative comfort.

    Tickets are VERY expensive.

    Sighhhh

    Yes, it was both.

I didn't mean you in particular, but there are plenty out there who really do believe that.

I can guarantee one thing, more than one member of staff will have been assaulted on the Central Line today. At least you got to work today safely (albeit late) unlike the LU staff members who will have been sworn at, spat at, verbally assaulted, physically assaulted, all for something that is beyond their control. It's exactly the same when there is a strike, instead of thanking the people who didn't strike all they get is abuse. The last strike about a month ago there were three assaults on staff at Mile End alone.

Yup, that I have seen all today - peopl;e are just awful having a go at the poor front line staff blaming THEM for any issues....and felt really sorry for them myself as some people were completely out of order. But that is another matter.

I am really upset that despite paying such a lot of money - I am subjected to horrific conditions while traveling to/from work. If cattle was transported this way - RSPCA would get involved. Because it is people - well.. it just goes on.

Fellow comutters "forgetting" to have a shower/change clothes, backpacks hitting others in faces as they wear them and "forget" they do turning randomly, smelly food, music so loud that can hear it when I do nto want to (have headphones on? so why am I forced to listed to YOUR music when I do nto want to, turn it down, right downnnnnnnnnn), rybbish everywhere, chewing gum everywhere, spilt drinks everywhere, chips with VINEGAR (!!!!) on the tube, extreme heat regardless of time of the year etc etc....

No, can not move and no can not change the job - I travel where I have to depending on what contract I am doing at any given time. My current one means traveling from North East to South West - prettymuch from "top right of the tube map" to "bottom left of the tube map"

Just wanted to have a moan as really tires me out..

I don't understand why they don't have platform screen doors at every station? Particularly in the central London sections?

Not all lines have trains/signalling capable of working with PED's.

It's not a trivial matter to retro-fit them.

I would like one side of the train to have doors for "getting out" and another for "getting on" - so a tran arrives at a platform and both sides of doors open and there is no pushing around just one side to get out and the other side to get on.

I suppose that's why so many people seem to cycle around London, especially during the Summer months it must be a viable alternative.
