What's that got to do with idiots in cars mincing along at low speeds??
Europe dictates this 90 kph limit, not my transport manager.
Now read what I actually wrote, then think about why a car might pose a greater risk to a truck than another truck.
  • So nothing has moved on in 40 years?
Well that's blown my argument out of the water then.

If you did 55 in a 70 when it was safe to do 70 on your test would you pass?
Well you would, you'd say it was to save fuel due to something that happened 40 years ago, and the examiner would say yes you're right, here it is written on the test paper, enjoy driving your mk1 Cortina.
Nothing like not reading what I wrote. In the test you are showing you are fully competent and can make good progress, and you are expected to show you can drive to the limit when appropriate.

When driving you are supposed to make due progress, but given that the motorway is full of vehicles that are limited in speed for one reason or another, I am trying to understand why you feel someone who is not limited choosing to drive at the same pace as other traffic around should be considered a danger to other road users.

Someone mentioned vans - they are limited to 70mph on motorways but 60mph on dual carriageways, do they suddenly become a danger to other road users on dual carriageways when they comply with their legal obligations. My 109 Vito is not entirely happy at 70mph and I will not always drive to the limit, preferring 60-65, and I have a friend with a very large (and old) Transit who drives to around 55ish because it doubles fuel consumption to try and go 70.

I would say a bigger danger on the road are other drivers who get incensed at other road users and start doing silly things to educate them.
