Because cheap VED and high official MPG figures.

But I suspect it was a rhetorical question.

You suspect wrong. A small car with a small petrol engine is going to economical by its nature. There is very little justification for paying an inflated price for a diesel (which is a dearer fuel than petrol) when the amount of miles required to recoup any spending is inter-galaxitcal.

You know that. I know that. We aren't the ones taking on huge amount of debt for a brand spankin' diseasel rollerskate to do minimal primarily stop-start mileage...

A friend of mine recently bought the 116d on finance, and she barely does 6k/year, mainly town driving. I asked her why she bought that particular model and she says she was appealed by the low tax band and high mpg figures. Only recently, her car has been having problems with the DPF....£800 plus bill to replace...

I found it quite stupid of her seeing as her annual salary doesn't reflect her material desires; having the latest iphone, wanting a brand new BMW etc. Funny thing is most the things she purchases are through loans, credit card and finance/leases. I could only imagine the amount of debt she will be in few years time from now...

Why are people banging on about this Corsa being a small car?

I pointed this out in another thread:

    Length x Height x Width

    2014 Corsa 3999 x 1488 x 1944
    1993 Ford Sierra 4531 x 1367 x 1727
    1993 Volvo 240 Estate 4844 x 1430 x 1720

Length wise it's just half a metre short, but in height and width it's a bigger car. Now Google the Ford and Volvo and try to image a Corsa next to one.....

My mate has got a very recent Corsa VXR, the tyres are the same size as my Vectra.

Does that actually matter to the question in hand?

Ultimately, by modern standards, it's a small car. OK, you've proved that 20 years ago cars were smaller.

Well done, tea and medals all round.

It does matter, clearly it matters, judging from the comments above. Particularly when people are asking why one should buy a "small car" with a diesel engine. There are small cars out there, the Corsa is no longer one of them! It's not me that's stuck in the past, it's folks who are thinking of the Corsa B**

**The Corsa A was rebadged as Nova for the UK market.

Corsa is regarded as a "small" car. Hence why many teenagers who just passed get a Corsa as first time car. Its equivalents are the Yaris, Polo, Jazz etc, all other smaller cars (and in my opinion better than the Corsa).

I'm not sure what exactly you are trying to prove here? Are you trying to imply that the Corsa is a mid-range car and competes against other larger cars of the early 90's such as the Sierra and Volvo?

Whatever the case, its a low end 'small' car that's cheap to buy and insure.

That's hardly a surprise, the VXR is the hot hatch version of the Corsa, it's suppose to have larger alloys, bumpers etc. What are the standard size tyres for the Vectra anyway? 195/205 width? That's not axactly regarded as 'large' tyres anyway for a larger car.

No, it has absolutely no relevance to the original question of whether or not the bloody DPF should be clogged on a car (of any size, actually) within 300 miles.

The VXR may have larger wheels, but the TYRE diameter will be the same (within a very small tolerance) across the range....

My point is that people don't buy "small" cars, to do typical "small" car driving any more. They're much bigger these days and so questioning why you'd have one with a diesel, just is not a valid argument.

You'd not question a Volvo 240 diesel, but you'd question a Corsa of a larger physical size? Where's the sense in that?

I didn't go down that tangent...... My comments are for the people who did.

But unfortunately, where I was just trying to point something out in a polite manner, certain individuals have turned into a much bigger deal.
