when looking I liked to use whatcar dimension pictures to compare cars.

  • Pity about the swift - but the Skoda Roomster is thinner than a Jazz even if it is longer so should be a good one to check out thanks fatbelly

    Perhaps a
Nissan Cube 1.6 KAIZEN AUTOMATIC + SAT NAV 5dr

might tick a few boxes. 2010 plenty on sale for under £7k.

It's different, roomy for its size.
    good luck with your choices

If thin is more important than length then there will be other options in the small xover market

Length will give more space in the boot for the dog.

Look at estate versions of smaller cars like the Skoda Fabia.(although I think they may be a bit wider) you want a squared of hatch for the dog
  • The Roomster is a great vehicle if you can get over its slightly odd styling.

On another note - it's narrow, not thin.
  • Mini Clubman would be ideal... youd have to go a little older to hit your price range though

    Here's a nice one...

Previously I have driven a Golf GTI - had plenty of oomph was ok but they are too expensive
A Corsa - not much go in it but was ok
A Scirrocco - looked great but couldn't see out the back window, dog was squashed a bit and was too wide down the narrow streets where I live where cars are parked both sides. Hard parking area. Can't afford a Scirrocco anyway.

And my last car was great - a Honda Jazz - maybe a tiny bit too big - but I could live with it

Can I get a confused "smilie" please?

I assume the Golf and Corsa were really old?

Because there is no way that a Honda Jazz is bigger than either of them (in their current form).

Be careful here, check the dimensions of the cars you look at, because £7000 of small car premium, is silly money for a car that ain't actually small.
