and OP also said he could live with it!

My point was about Mondeos and Insignias etc hardly meet the criteria small.
  • Used ford mondeo or vauxhall insignia. Or a vw passat . Loads to choose from

Yes get an old one for £2k, and spend £5k making it 2 foot narrower and 6 foot shorter :)

    Yeah not sure about that....

Me neither, back to what you actually asked then!
Parkers and autotrader will have expert and owners reviews, and dimensions - cars are getting so big, the width is a pain sometimes. I presume small cars are narrow, but you never know.
  • I recently bought a suzuki swift auto for exactly that amount. it's slightly smaller than a Jazz. 19,500 miles on the clock, small sized, 61 plate. alternatively, you could try a Hyundai I20 or Kia rio, all similarly sized. HTH :)

Presumably the kids will be occupying the back seats so the dog has to go in the boot, so we really need to know just how big a dog it is. If it will fit in the back of a Panda then that's a pretty good option (I drove the version before this one for 4 years and 70,000 miles and it was great) as the hatch is almost vertical so provides good head room for the dog.
  • German Shepherd/Alsatian sized, wild guess.

Suzuki swift best choice so far, nicer place to be than a corsa, thats for sure. Kia do a picanto which is ok although not quite as value for money as it once was, and even older ones will still be under warranty. Once its run out you're on your own though as i'm finding now.

While the Swift is a good car the key is going to be how big the dog is, as the boot may well not be suitable for a large dog due to the slope of the hatch.

Yes the Swift I will have a look at as well as some others you lot have mentioned. I will walk around a large car place as was suggested.

The dog is a Belgian shepherd looks like a black wolf so yes Alsatian sized. In the back of the Scirocco as it is a sporty type car we had to watch as the boot closed not to bang his head, there was enough room once closed but as you correctly mentioned the slope was angled so it made it tricky. The kids would lean over the back seats to hold him as I shut the boot. And someone actually punched a dent in it.
The Honda jazz was a dream for the dog... and no one wanted to punch it ha ha.

And yes one kid in the back in a car seat and one in the front that's why I need to place the dog in the boot.

Finding a dog guard or crate will be another story for later I'm sure lol....

Really - thanks for your help everyone.
