MSE News: Sainsbury's to slash petrol prices by up to 5p/litre

Sainsburys Wednesday last week 130.9 PL Diesel .
Today 128.7 PL .
Either someone cannot count or Sainsburys put the price up before the price drop .0 -
For diesel near here, Sainsburys has cut 3p at the nearest and 2p at some others, so they are all 128.9p. Tesco competitive for the first time in a long while, with 128.9 and 130.9. Asda down a penny.0

Regular Unleaded for £1.229! Sainsburys on A41, near M1 Junction 5. Sainburys on A5 West Hendon was £1.249.
Only had £25 worth, as the tank was more than half full, but just had to fill up at this price.0 -
So I've been looking at fuel prices over the last 2-3 days on my travels, and generally I found the following:
Asda - reversed the price rises I spoke about here:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=66433015&postcount=16
So typically a 1p per litre drop in both petrol & diesel.
But at least they are honouring the statement[Asda] drivers will pay no more than 124.7p/litre for petrol and no more than 128.7p/litre for diesel
Tesco - no change. Now typically charging about 2p per litre more than a local Asda (where applicable)
Sainsbury - reduced prices by about 2p per litre (or 1p per litre if you ignore the price rise around the beginning of this month, that the article also did originally, when it only reported the last price cut just before bank holiday Monday). Now appear to be leading the way amongst the major supermarkets ... and Nectar points too.
Not quite the 5p per litre being touted around in the article, but then it did preface that with those magical words "up to"
What next time in these ever increasingly crazy monthly reports of fuel price reductions? Up to a £1 off a litre? It would still be accurate.
(There should be more price decreases to come as wholesale oil prices are at a 2 year low

Has anyone actually found a Sainsbury or Tesco store that has reduced the price of it's fuel this week by 5p per litre?0 -
We have a Sainsbury in our town but I've not been up that way to check the pricing.
An Esso garage I drive past seems to have variable pricing at the moment, depending on time of day. I have seen diesel as high as 132.9 and as low as 128.9 ... ON THE SAME DAY!0 -
Just to update my last post of 1st October, Tesco has now put the price of unleaded back up to 126.9/litre from 125.9/litre. So I'm expecting another "price slash" shortly!0

Let's be frank - the whole thing is a con and MSE damages its reputation by playing along with the game, publicising these entirely misleading claims by the supermarkets.0
