Darn, wish I hadn't filled up today. I wonder if this is part of Sainsbury's new strategy to cut prices in store rather than have so many special offers?0

Don't forget that all supermarkets recently increased their prices - despite the falling cost of oil.
This was not announced in a press release of course, nor by this site - which is a shame.
So any decrease is partially absorbed by this increase in the last week or so.0 -
... spark a petrol price war?
After so much use, isn't it time for a new and original phrase in these articles?0 -
Tesco have announced a drop of up to five pence per litre, while Asda said it would reduce petrol by up to one pence and diesel by two.0

Slightly of subject, but Sainsburys have also announced that their price promise is to change. They will no longer compare their prices to Tesco and they will only from Oct do the price comparison with Asda.
This seems obvious that the Tesco prices must always be less than Sainsburys and they must have had to give away too much.Really this should backfire on Sainsburys and I certainly for one will be looking at Tesco prices in future.😉0 -
Actually, to come back to this, it's only a few days (10) since MSE predicted price rises, after changes in the exchange rate.
I pointed out that actually the pound had risen against the euro for several days in a row, and prices in Europe had recently dropped (they've just dropped again, or will in a couple of days time), so surely the next move would be downwards ...0 -
TESCO Neasden, next to IKEA, in north west London, was ridiculously cheap in the 1980s.
I certainly always filled up there if at all possible. The queues were not the problem, as you learned to avoid the rush hours, but the queue jumping was frightening. Once, a car barged in when a gap appeared, and a yardie type jumped out of a car with about three passengers. An old gentleman walked up to him to complain, and got head butted! His daughter came to stem the blood flow. Another driver went to the kiosk to ask for some action, and the staff were friends of the yardie, so they just talked! Never called the Police.
When they were giving away free electric toothbrushes, the Colgate staff had to close the stand at some locations, because they were afraid of the bargain hungry mob.
I wonder if this has ever happened:
A butcher offers free meat, and the stand is overrun by the crowd. When the police dispersed the crowd, all they could find is an apron and some blood stains.0 -

I wish MSE wouldn't repeat the supermarket propaganda.0 -
Tesco have announced a drop of up to five pence per litre, while Asda said it would reduce petrol by up to one pence and diesel by two.
So can we infer that Asda didn't put up prices recently whilst the other two did?
And Tesco wonder why profits are falling, they have been taking the pith for far too long now.0 -
Maybe I'm just too cynical about Sainsbury and Tesco, but this probably means the prices have risen 3-4p in the last week so they can trumpet these 'massive' "savings".
I wish MSE wouldn't repeat the supermarket propaganda.
Well, Tesco were selling at the same price yesterday when I filled up as they have for the last few weeks. Prices did go up around a month ago by 1-2p but that was after falls of 3-4p. So if prices now go down by 5p I think fuel will be around 7p a litre cheaper than it was in the first half of the year, and as the article says, at the lowest level since before the huge increases in January 2011. So while you can argue that it is supermarket propaganda, it seems reasonable to repeat it when it's actually true.0
