I've been without my Mum for far too long but have, on many occasions since losing her, been able to ask for advice and always got an answer.
I might not always take it though!
Nobody else can fill her role. I guess I'm lucky. For me it's not vacant.
I am curious, how do you communicate with her and how does she answer?
I think everyone who has lost a parent at times asks them for help or makes a bargain with God but sometimes things still go badly. Why would this happen if you had loved ones on the other side ready to give you help?
While I accept that this life may not be the end of the story I do think if "dead" people were able to communicate with us then there would be no unsolved murders etc. The mother of the Moors victim wouldn't have gone to her grave never knowing where her child was etc.
I think our loved ones are with us, as they have influenced our life and our memories of them keep them "alive".~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

I do feel quite strongly that grieving people are taken advantage of those who say they can communicate with the dead. I've been to many nights of "entertainment" by mediums etc. and seen people desperately grasping and making fit the information given to them.
When my DD showed an interest a couple of years ago I went with her to a Spiritualist church where 3 different mediums/clairvoyants were giving readings. As there were only about 6 of us in the audience we all had a reading. It was quite embarrassing how all the information they were giving DD and myself was completely wrong and we kept saying no. Not one name, not one connection, absolutely zero. My DD is an intelligent person and open minded and she came out of there knowing they were talking a load of balls.
When we saw Derren Brown's stage show he did a brilliant demonstration of clairvoyance/mediumship. Hit after hit with random people but he kept reiterating they weren't there and he wasn't talking to the dead he was cold reading them.
Many challenges with financial incentives have been put out there for people to prove their ability to communicate with the dead. No one has met the challenge.
My worry is the OP or others like her who are in the early stages of grief and struggling will feel they have done something wrong in that they have had no communication from their loved ones.
In 1988 I believed my mother came to visit me while I was in bed. I believed she sat on my bed and I was unable to turn over though I was awake. Researched on the internet years later and it's a sleep paralysis and quite common. I was grieving badly for my mother and really wanted her to be with me and hold me and my dream reflected this. As a teenager I talked extensively with my mother about life after death and she told me if she could come back and talk to me she would but in 26 years she hasn't. She was my mother and if she could have warned me in anyway about extremely difficult situations I would later find myself in she would have, but she didn't.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

well we will never know because the dead don't talk to us

This. The dead are dead.0 -
so in reality you are thinking what your mother would do in X situation.
Because you are putting her on a pedestal like she is your guardian angel.that is really trivialising the question. If the dead could communicate/watch over us then I'm sure they would have no wish to see their family suffering if they could tell them what had happened.
Well we will never know because the Dead don't talk to us, but again I feel you are ignoring the point of people not getting meaningful communication with the dead.

While I'm comfortable that you may not agree with it, I'm baffled as to why you would use this specific thread to make your point in such a way.0
