I didn't mean to be racist at all, there is no need to take it that way

Of course you were- otherwise why mention it. Xenophobic maybe rather than racist. It is irrelevant and untrue.

She cant be 'indian ' if she has qualified for help to buy. She is British or an EU citizen.
    June challenge £100 a day £3161.63 plus £350 vouchers plus £108.37 food/shopping saving

    July challenge £50 a day. £ 1682.50/1550

    October challenge £100 a day. £385/£3100
  • well actually she can be of indian decent which is clearly what he meant. Her country of decent may not be important in this case unless she is here illegally, although that is unlikely if she has qualified for HTB. Nothing negative about her race or decadency and although I see where you are coming from and agree that this information was not really needed I think you may have over reacted a tad.

If the OP is concerned they should contact HMRC and the HTB scheme to report, also important was the deposit protected in a registered scheme? if not you could claim upto 3x the deposit amount from the Landlord.
  • Obviously she is a legal resident here, i'm not arguing it, otherwise she won't be able to buy a flat. However it is not appreciated that she uses such schemes built to help hard working people buying the first house, she pays only 5% deposit and let the rent pays the mortgage fees while sitting at her parents place, on the other hand there is a long queue of genuine buyers waiting to have their own real first house.
  • Ah, the anti-racism brigade is out in force.

Yes, mentioning her ethnicity as an apparently superfluous adjective may be a teeny bit racist.

The fact that she is a woman is also a teeny bit sexist, and the fact that she is young is a teeny bit ageist.

Clearly we should enforce a policy on these boards where all landlords and tenants are referred to by strict gender, ethnicity and age-neutral expressions, as this will make everything better.

That nonsense shouldn't be the priority here. The defrauding of government-funded subsidy schemes is a real unlawful act with a real cost.

OP - I think G_M has given you some good starting points.

Anegla, do you really want to get in trouble? you dont know what kind of people that person might know.

what are you gonna get from that? do you think you are a better person because you have reported that?

She is just a person that wants to make a living and get extra cash.

If you want to do something big to help this society go for the big fraudsters.

(people like you makes me feel s***)

You found the place on Gumtree and then expected her to use an agency for the tenancy agreement? Why not find a place through an agency rather than gumtree if you wanted an agency service?

I'm pretty sure if you were a concerned citizen you could find lots of scams on gumtree to focus on... this is a pretty minor one if indeed it is one. It's not like she stole the house.

Did she do something to upset you whilst you were living there? Was it a bad place to live?

Anyway I'm sure if you grass her up to HMRC they will investigate... they like to pick on the small fish for crumbs. Much easier than targeting the big tax avoiders like the Amazons and Starbucks of the world.

    Quite simple; report it.

We all are paying for her mortgage; you are renting because of people like her taking advantage.

What does her ethnicity have to do with it?

Don't bring that into it - fraud can be committed by anyone and if you take this further she may claim at you are doing this as you are racist.

I would find put who he mortgage lender is and write to them. We all pay for fraud through higher prices in shops. Morally, you should report this.

Very true not all nigerians commit fraud, wait its not a nigerian.

Dont go round branding people racists.
