Great news anyway on your monthly reduction, even though you weren't personally happy with the amount.. November will be far greater now you have paid the crappy fine and elec bits off (Santa will have to have what's left) eh.
Have a fab day and I hope it's warmer with you it's brass monkeys here in the office. x

Good Morning Everybody
Well its all quiet at Brogden Towers and I am at my desk all day. I burned a bit of diesel on Monday and Tuesday and ticked one hell of a lot of work boxes so its great to have a day to get organised and then I’m likely to be out at least some of the day on Thursday and Friday. As I will be driving only a few miles today for errands I am expecting a significant ‘undershoot’ in the daily envelope budget and maybe a note or two in addition to the coins will be saved at close of business tonight!
I have amended my signature for October – nothing too exciting and I hope you are not all going to get bored with me.
- As a result of paying the motor insurance claim excess, the inflated bus lane fine and putting the electricity back on track only £120.40 has been paid to the debts…….this is really rubbish.
- The debt balance on my signature has been reduced by more than that…..an additional £562.63 to be precise. I have been thinking about this for a while and consider one of my payday loan to have been effectively written off.
Hmmmmmnnnn……welcome to Brogden’s ‘darker side’…..his flirtation with the PDL’s…………
The ‘write-off’ I mentioned above is an inflated debt with a payday lender which, at the time when I was struggling most was passed to the DCA, ARC Europe but seemingly not assigned…..My head was in the sand for a time and a few weeks passed before I called ARC Europe as part of a ‘PDL Tidy Up Exercise.’ It was I think my last LBM since which time I feel I have pretty much ‘held the reigns’ and become once again human. I find that the PDL has taken back the debt from the DCA. I called the contact number for the PDL which was their parent company who told me it was nothing to do with them. I decided to take no further action on the premise…..’if you are a complete bunch of numpties then you deserve everything you get.’
I accept I may have to add this debt back in to my outstanding balances if they decide to contact me and I do not mention the name of the firm here but somehow I doubt they will contact me and I will for the time being consider the matter closed.
On the subject of ‘murky’ PDL’s I have two more ‘odd’ situations:-
Wonga – They sold the debt to BCW / Red Castle / Gothia (why have one name when you can have three?) Contrary to the MSE announcement…..if Wonga have sold your debt you are not included in the bunch who may have had their loan written off as they would have been declined under Wonga’s new lending criteria. So….it doesn’t matter whether Wonga made a good or very poor lending decision…..they sold your debt so Mr. Punter you are stuffed with the full debt plus interest plus charges.
Whilst I do take my hat off to Wonga for doing something…..this is inequitable in the extreme and I do not believe that if this is pushed that Wonga can justify their stance. Hence I have sent a letter of complaint to both Wonga and the DCA. I have included with the complaint two copy letters from the time in 2013 when Wonga accepted me for a loan……one is a demand from my mortgage lender for payment of mortgage arrears and the other is advice of an attachment of earnings for council tax arrears. Whilst I wanted the cash, can we really say that Wonga acted as a responsible lender? If Wonga and the DCA do not cooperate then this is going to the FOS. I have put them on token payments of £1.00 per month in the meantime.
CFO Lending……Ha!……..this lot have entered a voluntary agreement with the FCA to not issue new loans and to cease all outbound debt collection. Simply…..everything I say about Wonga’s loan ‘underwrting’ applies here too. I have sent them two emails asking them to contact me to discuss the situation but……nothing. They used to call me 3 or 4 times a day!!! Now they won’t speak to me even if I ask them to. Later today I will get around to complaining here and if nothing happens taking this to the FOS on the basis that I cannot even get a final response out of them. I have a number of emails from them which will be useful. They were in the habit of offering ‘defaulting’ customers additional finance to bail out the defaulted loan and give them an extra few hundred quid on top!!!!!!!! I guess the FOS and FCA may have already seen these and this appalling behaviour may have added fuel to the fire but no harm in sending these too. They are on £1.00 per month token payments also.
I do think we should consider ourselves responsible for our actions and if we borrow then we should pay back. However, regardless of what we sign in a credit agreement, I believe we need ‘fair play.’ If we are struggling we should not be exploited and maybe we should be granted a concession here and there. Where our situations are hopeless in that we could never pay a debt which was increasing exponentially we should be assisted. Finally, in the situation where an awful industry is imploding on itself and businesses are ‘forced’ to give concessions and redress then those concessions and that redress should be administered fairly. I say this before any internet trolls land on this thread and I do mean this most sincerely.

Mrs PG and Brogden, Loved the Dad memories:)
My dad has an old metal money tin with a money slot on top and a lock. He and mum always put all of their (edit There even!) change in their. It was never locked, though it had a lock. It was used for paying the milkman and the window cleaner, and all our bus fares and dinner money. He still has the tin and they still keep their change in it. Its all battered and scratched. They have bus passes now and no milkman doing a round and the window cleaner costs more than loose change! But they still collect their change, and now it is used for charity donations (my mum always puts change in her pocket when she goes shopping in case someone is collecting), and when the grandchildren are there they get treated to whippy ice cream cones, (with flake obviously!) when the van comes round every evening spring summer and autumn. The excitement that little tin generates is amazing. Its the parable tin - it has never been empty.
