Are TV points in bedrooms important?
Comments
-
No TV points required - the technology has moved on.0
-
I would expect a tv point in the main bedroom of a modern house.
We hardly ever watch the tv in the lounge but do watch the news on the tv in the bedroom just before we go to sleep.0 -
Surely it's a bog standard question of how much would it cost. If you have everything down and are rewiring, presumably it's not much to do it, so you might as well. I think it's nice to have - especially if it's a family home (teenagers can lock themselves away, no rows about which channel to watch). It's much more pleasant to watch programmes on a tv screen than an ipad.
Not a deal breaker, though.0 -

Agreed - however, nowadays if you have a smart TV, a NowTV box (£10), a ChromeCast (£25) or something similar, you can watch internet-based TV on your normal TV.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -
Definitely not a problem.
The last two new builds I bought I had the TV points in the matter bedroom removed when specifying the house.0 -
I can think of better uses for a bedroom than watching tv
It's someone else's fault.0 -
I think it's going to get less and less important because TV watching as we know it is going to change a lot. I think we're moving towards having one big screen in a communal room, and if people want to watch their own stuff, they'll do it on tablets and the like rather than having a fixed telly in their bedroom.0

I've got a tv point in my bedroom but the room is barely big enough for a bed and a chest of drawers, and my tenancy agreement prevents me from mounting a tv on the wall. I wouldn't want a tv in there anyway, but it does baffle me why the owners bothered putting the tv point in in the first place!0

It may be "trashy" but I do have a small 19" TV in the bedroom but it is hardly ever turned on. If it was to die I probably wouldn't replace it.
Personally, I'd rather have an ethernet socket fitted than a TV point.0 -
Fair enough if you're having the place rewired anyway, but I don't think many people actually need it. A combination of wifi and homeplugs will work fine for most people and is a lot cheaper and less hassle than having the place wired for Ethernet.
I only have a 6-8Mbps internet connection but it's enough to handle the NowTV box and Chromecast simultaneously.
I don't think 6-8MBps is very fast. What about upload speed?
I haven't tried the homeplugs. Are they the devices that use your electrical wiring system to increase your wifi range / strength?
Also, with more wireless thermostats etc, maybe interference will become more of an issue? I still like Ethernet sometimes!0
