AUTOGLASS Ripoff - Help!!

  • I guess the important point is when did the windscreen become damaged? If it was during the old insurance period then it is that insurer who should cover the cost. If it was during the gap in insurance then you'll need to pay yourself. One thing is for certain in that it's got nothing to do with your new insurer.

    It happened a while back I will have to go back and see what exactly happened and when. It may well be probable that the damage occurred whilst the previous insurance coverage was in place and therefore the claim should have been with the old policy.

    My current issue is that I will have to spend time digging this up and finding out what happened and when.

    Autoglass take down reg numbers and check insurance cover before starting work and quote based on this. They have the systems to do this and provided an assurance to me that of my cost and liability. They verify insurance and quote for a service based on the particular insurance details. They then do the service and take their money. If later they do not recover the costs, why should they be "off the hook" for promising this service in the first place?

    If they have "no" responsibility, it will give them free reign to tell everybody they can get windscreens replaced cheaply and then send them a big bill after? Surely there should be something in their terms and conditions to make this clear to the customer? Where is it??

    Their ability to check the insurance is limited, they cannot tell if there are indemnity issues etc. You are supposed to know your policy and its your responsibility to ensure you're going to be covered.

    When I returned to the UK I realised the car insurance had not been renewed.

    At the time I also called Autoglass as I noticed the windowscreen needed repairing.

    You called Autoglass knowing you were not insured. Surely you were expecting to pay for it - so just pay.
  • OP you tried to make a fraudulent insurance claim, nothing you say now changes that.

    So far you seem to have been lucky, they just want their money back, if you keep pushing it they can get a whole lot nastier.

    autoglass have the ability to check that you have insurance in place which it sounds like this is what they have done

    what they dont know is will the insurer pay the claim, in your case it seems that the claim has been refused on the basis that the damage occurred before the policy came into force

    you seem to be trying to place the blame with autoglass but it is your insurer that has refused to pay the claim so have you actually spoken to your insurers to see what they have to say about it

    as i said in my first post the blame still lies with you
