AUTOGLASS Ripoff - Help!!

Hi,
Requesting the help of the forum as seem to be stuck between Autoglass and an insurance company.
Basically I hadn't used the car for a while as was travelling late last year.
When I returned to the UK I realised the car insurance had not been renewed.
At the time I also called Autoglass as I noticed the windowscreen needed repairing.
Autoglass makes a claim against an insurer and therefore I had to get the insurance renewed first.
I renewed the car insurance and then called back Autoglass to confirm if they could do the work.
They checked their systems, confirmed that I was covered and stated I would only have to pay an excess of £75 to them because of my insurance coverage.
As a result, I got the window repaired by Autoglass and paid a £75 excess to them.
Six months later I was contacted by Autoglass (Belron UK offical name) and was told that the insurance has not paid for the windscreen repair. As a result I was liable for £370
I have looked through the terms and conditions of Autoglass here (may have changed since late last year):
https://www.autoglass.co.uk/Terms-of-Business.11864.0.html
It states that...
"d. Where you make a claim under your insurance and we have received the relevant information from your insurer, we will advise you of the excess we believe you are required to pay and will claim the balance of our fee from your insurer"
I believe it is the responsibility of Autoglass to check that I am covered and that the insurer will pay them.
They checked this before I got the work done and confirmed it -which is why I authorised the work. If for whatever reason they do not get paid, I do not see how or why I should be held responsible? I have also checked the back of the Autoglass receipts I received and it does not say anything about customers being responsible if insurance does not pay.
Should I request copies of the Autoglass phone call conversations to ensure this was agreed on the call? - under my data protection rights.
Has anyone else had this problem?
I am now being sent letters threatening that the outstanding £370 balance will be sent to a collection agency.
Welcome your advise please as quickly as possible.
Thanks in advance.

Did you renew through the same insurance company?
If you used a new insurance company, then check their policy to see if there is a qualifying period for windscreen repairs?
If you renewed with the same company, then find out from them why they declined it.
It may be that autoglass quoted an old policy number and it got declined on that.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -

So in short what you are saying is that you attempted to commit insurance fraud and have been caught out?
If a distance relative dies do you think you can quickly nip out, get a £500k life insurance policy on them and then claim the next day as they're dead?
You attempted to claim for pre-existing damage under the new policy, to be honest you are very lucky that they have simply declined the claim. Most would have void your policy for fraud which would give you a lifetime of issues of trying to get insurance in the future. They may also have loaded you to CIFAS for fraud which would then result in your bank and credit card company etc finding out you're a fraudster.0 -
To attempt fraud, and then to complain publicly about being detected, must put the OP in line for an award of some sort.
His best policy would be to lie low and hope that no-one reading the thread decides to investigate further.0 -
Quite incredible.
If the OP had waited a week or so before repairing the windscreen - nobody would have been any the wiser.
Still a likely fraud though as the claim should have been against the previous policy period.0 -
I guess the important point is when did the windscreen become damaged? If it was during the old insurance period then it is that insurer who should cover the cost. If it was during the gap in insurance then you'll need to pay yourself. One thing is for certain in that it's got nothing to do with your new insurer.0

sorry but you have gone about it the wrong way, the fact that you highlighted the damage to autoglass and then re insured the car and then tried to claim for the damaged screen
i wouldnt try and fight it to hard as you will only open up a can of worms, some harsh words given above but that is about the size of it0 -
Looking at the thread title, it is terrible that the OP is trying the rip off Autoglass.0

You have tried to trick the system, it didnt work but you're blaming somone else.0 -
Even though your claim has been rejected the incident will still need to be disclosed when applying for new quotes over the next 3/5 years (depending on how long a history you are asked about)0

Do you think this thread went the way the op intended?
