Interesting PCN - PE

Hi All,
My father just got an invoice in the post from PE for overstaying in a McDonalds in wales (he lives hundreds of miles away in the east of england). Thought I'd post the info as this one should be straightforward to get cancelled but it shows that no one bothers checking these things before they try to extort money from people.
The registration number of the car is my fathers. The picture they caught on ANPR shows the number plate. The details as obtained from DVLA are for my fathers car. The problem being the car in the picture is most definitely the wrong car. The car in the picture is clearly a Vauxhall Corsa the details from DVLA clearly state - Astra. Two very different cars but as all they want is money they probably didnt even bother to use common sense

He could have some fun with this. You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0

Are you saying this is a case of mistaken identity, or possibly the cloning of your father's VRM plates?
It's a pity it's a Corsa in the picture; you may still get PE arguing the toss as both are Vauxhall models and not a million miles apart in looks. Pity it wasn't a Bentley shown, then it would be much more straightforward - and much more fun (as per TD)! :rotfl:
More information might help us guide you better. Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

Oh do tell The Deep? I think at the moment he is going to contact DVLA as he doesnt want worse showing up if his number plate is being used for criminal purposes
Umkomaas - Possible cloning I would say. The picture has the correct plate but the car is wrong. What other info would you like? I'll be honest the difference between an astra estate and a corsa (both older models not the new ones) is big enough0 -
Do you mean there's a picture of a Corsa with your fathers plate on it?
I'd go straight to the police, either PE have doctored the image to get a usable plate (which is stupid and illegal but I wouldn't put it past them), or there's a Corsa with the wrong plate. Are the numbers similar?0 -
Yes thats exactly the case Herzlos. We went into our local station last night and they told us it has to be raised with DVLA so thats what hes going to do asap.
Judging by the picture the plate is the same so a likely cloning case rather than doctored image but who knows.0 -
Well, I would be inclined to get it to Popla and put in a "radio active" spider appeal, but I am guessing that others here would advise against it.
If this is an old Corsa, it would hardly seem to be worth cloning, it is not as if they are popular as getaway cars, probably another PE FUBAR.You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0 -
A radioactive spider appeal is old hat. I would go for a transformer!
As registered keeper I would like to appeal this PCN. I feel I cannot be held responsible for the actions of my Vauxhall Astra VRN xxxxxxx.
Whilst whiling away some happy hours in xxx, my home town in Wales, unbeknownst to me my Vauxhall Astra utilised its transmorphic powers and turned into its alter ego, the Vauxhall Corsa. At the same time it transported itself x hundred miles away to said location and prefomed a dastardly act of parking in breach of the terms and conditions.
Whilst I do not condone the actions of my car, I do not accept responsibility for its behaviour and as such request that you accept this appeal as keeper.
I have reported my car to the DVLA as I feel they should be made aware of the super powers my car has, since this may affect its excise duty etc.
Obviously amend details of where father was etc with his car to suit.
So for once, I am tempted to agree with the Deep and send in a totally daft appeal, since you will be able to see this off.
And of course include the DVLA.Newbie thread: go to the top of this page and find these words: Main site > MoneySavingExpert.com Forums > Household & Travel > Motoring > Parking Tickets, Fines & Parking. Click on words Parking Tickets, Fines & Parking. Newbie thread is the first post. Blue New Thread button is just above it to left.0 -
Love it, it is time someone had a bit of fun with PE.You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0

Love it. Very much tempted to do as you suggest and have some fun with this. They cant hold my father responsible for a car that is clearly not his and to have some fun at their expense is well worth it.0
