There is so little broadcast 3D programming I would say it is only a matter of time before it vanishes altogether. The Daily Wail called it an "expensive flop" - must be true....:rotfl:
I have 3D on my Panasonic - it was there when I bought it, it was quite good at times. I don't pay nice Mr Murdoch anymore - so goodbye 3D.
You said not to bother with it, that sounds much the same as "it's not worth having".
In any case, there are plenty of 3D blu rays about, and still more being made. There's quite a few 3D games and some people will have recorded content (I still have the 3D dr who, for example) - so I think there's a while yet before it vanishes completely....but it's certainly not "the next big thing" film studios were hoping for.0 -

I think it's dead in the water. Only time will tell.0 -

That's why I said "only time will tell."
...but time doesn't tell you whether it's worth buying *now*.
As it stands, there is a bunch of content available for the platform - whether it's dying out or not...Time will tell whether they keep making more content for it etc - but that doesn't help the OP who's looking to buy a telly now...0 -
The BBC last year announced it was abandoning its own 3D experiment, after audience appetite for the format failed to materialise.
the head of BT Sport dismissed 3D as the "biggest waste of time", saying the channel will "absolutely not do 3D".
Etc and so forth

I disagree, but you knew that already.0 -
Almost all new technology is poopooed when it first comes out and early adopters mocked for it. When TVs moved from 720 to 1080 most people said its pointless and you wont see the difference. Now all TVs are 1080 and we have 4K coming along (which again everyone says is useless)
I bought a computer in the 90s and it had USB port... never used it at all. Bought a laptop to replace it a couple of years later and it had a USB (pointless I thought) and a PCMCIA slot which sounded really useful. Of cause the world quickly moved on and USB exploded and the only thing I ever bought to use in the PCMCIA slot was a USB adapter!
Now I am not convinced by 3D on TVs yet, I have a few BluRays which happened to have the film in 3D and I guess it adds a little but not something I'd pay much extra for. I wouldnt go as far as calling it a dead duck yet as I've made those predictions before and was proven wrong0 -

But it's very easy, today, to say 'don't buy a 3D TV. Why? There's so very little content, and very little prospect of content. Unless you're massively into buying or renting 3D Blu-Rays or games, don't bother with 3d, there's nothing to do with it.
And here are a couple of decent TVs in your budget - 42".

As you say, there's not much content...but I don't think you need to be "massively into" 3D to fancy watching the occasional film or playing GoW in 3D every so often....if 3D TVs were wildly more expensive, I'd agree with you...but given that the difference in cost is often negligible, I don't see why you wouldn't want to enjoy that content - limited as it is.0
