  • Well done on another day!

I found this website really, really helpful when I was stopping - it helped me to think about gaining freedom from nicotine rather than "giving up" smoking, which helped me psychologically.

neverdespairgirl - those were taken from various reports by leading researchers in the fields of both nicotine and e-cig research... try looking for Prof. Peter Hajeck, Dr Constantinos Farsilinos and others...

The BBC reported several weeks ago that the GMC has finally swung in to support the use of e-cigs because:

    1. There are 100 carcinogens in cigarettes. There are few in e-cigs.

    2. The toxins which are present in e-cigs are far too small to be of any concern - this includes nicotine.

    3. The only real concern the GMC and WHO have about e-cigs is that they are a gateway to smoking tobacco for young people because "vaping" is seen as trendy.

    4. E-cigs are capable of saving 6000 lives a year in the UK alone.

I agree with all the experts who say that there should be more research on e-cigs. I want to be sure beyond doubt that my nicotine replacement isn't harming me in any way - until I manage to get off it.

I'd also like to see regulation so that medical standards are set for all components, especially juices. I'd be happy for the sale of such items to be prescription only to prevent their use becoming trendy.

In the meantime I'm happy feeling the benefits of using an e-cig, including the cash windfall of not buying tobacco products. :j

Sometimes batteries wear out or malfunction. Get another one or two so you always have a reserve. I have 5 eGo 1100 mah batteries. Got my last two as part of a kit from VaporBreak which included two chargers and a carry case - all for a tenner IIRC!

Wasn't the battery was the 'cleomiser' or whatever it's called - bought a spare as the young man said they can get clogged. Left battery charging for over three hours, still wasn't working so I changed the cleomiser and hurray, a proper 'vape'! Not good if they only last one week, but probably got sand it in today at the beach!

When I used mine the red light when charging never turned off so I never quite knew when it was done, I don't think it is too reliable....

I've just completed my first trip to the pub, free of tobacco, feel fantastic!!

Hope everyone has had a great day and roll on tomorrow.

    Best of luck.

I only had two roll ups yday (me and OH have been sharing them instead of having one each!) and this morning I woke up without even a slight craving…that is until I went to the back door to let the dog out and then I really wanted one, so I'm def having problems with the habit breaking aspect! Won't be having a roll up though, I'm being motivated by all your posts-thank you!!

  • Sorry guys! Been a horrible few days in work (not directly involving me but it is affecting the team) so have just been going home and lounging!

Still no cigs though but to say I haven't been tempted recently would be a big fib! I've come so far though so I'm not going back!

I have a few colleagues who smoke vapour but I don't think it would work for me...I think I'd be tempted to go back to cigs!

Look how much we've saved already!

Buy a better clearomiser would be my advice. One which costs at least £10 and which can be stripped down, cleaned and allows for coil replacement. I use a Nature Vape Midi - about £17 + P&P. A lot larger than most but I've had it for four months now, gone through three coils and stripped it down for cleaning about 10 times. A doddle. Coils for high end clearomisers like this cost around £2.50 each which you can buy a complete cheaper clearomiser/atomiser for.

As cheap as e-cigs are you still only get what you pay for. The clearomiser and coil is where your flavour comes from. Buy cheap and you get a rubbish taste.

Day 9 everyone!:j How are you all finding it? Is doing Stoptober something you've shared with family and friends, or is it something you're soldiering through by yourself?

The health benefits should really be kicking in now, although you might feel worse before you get better, what with cravings still hanging around!

Speaking of cravings, we want to see what you're doing to avoid them! Post a photo of you (let's call them #StoptoberSelfies :)) doing something that really helps you take your mind off smoking. You can tweet us your photos if you like as well to @mse_forum.

If you haven't found anything yet, what about becoming a crafter? We've got plenty of advice on how to start in the Crafting boards or (weather permitting) get stuck into your garden with the Gardening Board. Whatever you decide to do ...show us! :)
