  • I always used to think my kids would get bullied at school for smelling like smoke, even though I didn't smoke indoors either. They're the reason I'm doing this (they're old enough to have bullied me into it haha!) and I felt better last week knowing they were going to school in fresh uniforms that had been nowhere near any kind of smoke! I'm also finding my teeth/tongue is feeling a little bit funny, like my tongue is too big for my mouth or something. I admit I've been using my ecig more than I thought I would and also have a huge amount of respect for those going cold turkey! Keep going everyone :)

    Day 5 ..... done!

Feeling a bit bleugh. But proud of myself. And the savings - I honestly didn't think I spent that much and it soon mounts up.

Looks like everyone is doing well. Have you found it surprisingly easy or very difficult? How do you cope with the cravings?

Signature updated of total saved in 5 days. :)

Well done everybody!! My OH is more on board now and over the past few days he's only smoked 5 roll ups a day compared to 20+. I only had 3 yday and I think after today will be ready to stop. I have been using gum which I will continue doing! Going to cut out my after work smoke today and see how I get on! It's amazing seeing how much we have all saved already (even with blips!) I think my problem was trying to go cold turkey, was just not going to work for me...

  • Morning fellow non smokers!

What an awful morning..weather wise! I'm sat on the train commuting to work and someone has had a ciggy before getting on! The past 5 days that smell has made me go....'yummy!'

Today it doesn't smell so appealing!
My skin has calmed down a little but I have been suffering with mouth ulcers! Anyone else noticed a change in anything?

We are hoping to buy a new house in the very near future! I have worked out that the money I used to spend on cigs will cover approx 80% of the additional mortgage!

That is definitely spurring me on!

    Hope everyone is okay :)

That is a huge achievement for you and your other half! I don't think I could do it without the patches! Nothing wrong with using NRT! It doesn't matter how we get there, as long as we get there!

I won't miss standing outside in this weather smoking!
  • Morning everyone!

Just 2 days and you will have done a whole week without smoking! According to the NHS website, in the run up to next week you'll start to feel your circulation improving and so things like exercise will be noticeably easier to do. I know it's freeeezing now (I wore a coat and beanie hat to work this morning) but even a brisk walk will do you wonders, get you out of the house and stop you thinking about those little white sticks!

I found this Buzzfeed article this morning which is great (who doesn't love a list with gifs) - what stage of giving up smoking are you at? 17 Stages of Giving Up Smoking

Anyone found any surefire ways of staying on track so far? Share your secrets! :)

My daughter is 18 and said she was terrified of having to leave Uni to come home and nurse me if I became ill too - her father has COPD. Was a very big wake up call.

Day 6 ..........oh boy I'm struggling today. Feeling a bit down and disheartened with work. I just want a little pick me up. Crisps and chocolate aren't doing the trick. I'm sure I'm getting fatter everyday. I'm spotty and constipated (sorry TMI)

Hopefully this time next week I'll have got through the worst of it. I'll be full of energy, my skin will have improved, and I'll have swapped the chocolate and crisps for fresh fruit to help me go.:rotfl:

But today I'm just going to feel sorry for myself.

Does anyone else feel like me?

  • So day 6 nearly complete!

My appetite is still growing, so although I have saved nearly £20 on the evil weed, I think I've spent most of that on extra fruit.

Hit the bad sleep night last night and woke up at silly o'clock this morning. Took ages to get back to sleep - for some reason I kept thinking about how long it's been since I've had proper fish n chips from a chippy! (I think they cost about £2.50 last time I bought them so that shows how long it's been:rotfl:). Might make it my treat on Friday though!

  • Sounds like everyone is doing well :)

I've found today the easiest so far, despite me using my ecig less. We spent most of the day driving round looking at flooring and decoration for the house (pipe dreams at the moment but it was nice to get out and look/dream) I used to smoke more when I drove but I banned smoking in the car when I had a new one 2 weeks ago before I even thought about joining stoptober so I did myself a favour there! My other half is also smoking less and said he's toyed with the idea of giving up too, inspired by how well I've done, and promptly bought me a 'well done for not smoking for 5 days' pressie :) it makes me proud of myself knowing he's proud of me!

Hope everyone is ok and didn't get too wet today x
